tchung22, Honest, I've had this thread bookmarked since september or maybe even August when stupid Pokemon wrecked everything...

Yesterday I acquired the Japanese SMG and honest, there's an update on it, and I can now access my Wii's settings, AND I even got onto the Japanese store and bought one of the games!

SMG will patch this problem we've all been suffering through, though you may have to upgrade your chip in order to actually play SMG! But I swear on anything, it'll patch and fix this problem.... believe me, yesterday was an extremely happy day of my life!

I can confirm that Super Mario Galaxy fixes the brick issue, HOWEVER - Before you rush out and burn it, make SURE it is the JAPANESE version, NOT the USA NTSC.

Also, this game has new copy protection in so you should ensure your mod chip has been upgraded to allow the playing of this game or you are going to get away from one problem and straight into another.

I have a WiiKey and got the update from wiikey.cn, but I think most of the main mods also have had fixes by now.

Enjoy !

Just to confirm what you guys have been saying:

Would i need to update my wiikey to 1.9b from the wiikey website then run mario Galaxy JP?

Also - does anyone have any idea what firmware the new WII FIT will have? this is the newest nintendo game released 1st december in japan.

Surely this is bound to have the latest update - any ideas guys?

Ok kids, one more time

All you need is the Japanese mario Galaxy and it has the update that will patch our bricked wii's!

Though, after doing the update, the only way to play the game is to update your chips firmware (example, I have wiikey, I had to upgrade my chip to v1.9g (subnamed galaxy))

Anyway, do this and you should be good...

As for actually playing the American Galaxy, I'm unsure, because according to Compatibility list the US isn't compatible (mind you the version out right now was only a demo... still a few weeks to go)

I don't know what kinda chip I have in my Wii, but I know I can play burned games and games from different region.

Updating my Wii with Mario Galaxy Jap, I will still be able to play my old burned games right?

Just to clear some **** up. The JAP mario galaxy update WILL fix semi bricks. However you need your mod cip to be updated to the latest version first for it to work (3.6B for cyclowiz and 1.6g for wiikey).
Then it will be happy plays.
And the US version WILL also work for you no problemos.

question about unbricking your Wii. So you're saying that updating to a newer FW than the one on the bricked Wii will unbrick it? Can't someone just go out and rent a game with the newer FW, rip the FW, and repack onto a new disc should they need it?

hi all,

i have updated with SMG J on my semi-bricked wii (from mario chargers) and it still can't fix settings. I'm still getting the opera error at wii settings.

Can i confirm the order of the update? do i:

1. Update the wiikey to 1.9g FIRST then update with SMG J

or

2. Directly update from SMG without wiikey 1.9g?

On a side note, does anyone know what the update in Guitar Hero 3 is on a legit copy? issit a firmware update? i can't find info on it?

Arrgggg!!! I shoudn't have bought the wii jap mod or the wii itself. I nver got the chance to see my Wii current version coz I was testing out the games. Unluckily I tested mario strikers(all I know its NTSC e) and found out later the errors of that event. I got my Wii semi bricked since i cant access my wii settings. I don't know my modchip but still I can play metroid corruption and the other ones i bought including strikers. Now my fear is that I would eventually brick my Wii with future games. Will the SMG jap fix my wii setting? if not and theres no other way, I feel like going to the shop where I bought this thing and smash it to their Indian faces..Pls help!!!!!!

Whoops....too late. I got it exchange for another jap wii mod. When I got home I updated it to 3.1j then tried every cd I have including mario striker & metroid. It did't brick or semi brick nor put duplicate channels. But I do have trouble reading with cds except with wii sports and resident evil 4. Must be a bad swap

Hi bixero, i have the same exact problem as you. No SMG doesn't fix the semi-brick by GH3 sadly. Guess we'll just have to wait for the next update.

Hey, if Mario Galaxy did not fix your WII, it could have been because of either down loading the English version without knowing it because it does show Japanese on the initial load screen. But there is a fix, if you go and download the WIIFit (Japan) it will fix the semi-bricked WII and allow you to access your settings.
