MY psp is 1006 and no the NA version didn't work1

I heard that once you downgraded the psp once you can't upgrade again.
Is this true?
and if so is there anything I can do to erase the flash memory and rewrite?
Thanks

So you are saying it will work on mine if it isnt a newer main board? I got my Jap white PSP around that time the PSP was just getting big in the UK at christmas, think it was christmas 2005. So it's not particularly new. I think it has firmware 2.5 on when i bought it.

Can i therefore change mine and which is the best firmware to go to and method if i want to play some PS isos etc?

P.S. How do i check the mainboard number?

NeO

You can check your mainboard version using this pic:

In this pic this is TA-082. I'm successful with this and older mainboard, i didn't try some new mainboard like TA-086 so I can't confirm it will work with mainboard newer than Ta-082.

Mine does not have any text there like shown, however, further across on the board, directly behind the left hand black rubber stand off barely visible is "IC6001"

Are you able to clarify with this information? I can take a picture if it would help.

That would be a ta-079 motherboard. You won't have to worry about problem with downgrade.

#1: 2.81 -> 3.03 -> 3.11 DoH (no more :D)
#2: 1.00 -> 1.5 -> 3.03oe-c
#3: Ceramic white 1.5 -> 3.03oe-c -> 3.40oe
Whatever happens, happens...

Excellent, so... What's my best bet in terms of firmware to run.

Should i downgrade to 1.5 JAP/UK/NA? then upgrade to 3.40 OE-?

Will I then be able to upgrade back to a normal firmware and will it still be compatible with my PS3 if i do this?

I'm new to PSP homebrew/firmware so i don't know which is best to use.

Explain as you wish, I am a Computer Science & Electronic Engineering student so don't worry about me understanding what you tell me.

P.S. I would like to keep my PSP on Jap firmware but I assume there are no open editions made of the Japanese versions?
Thanks

I don't know if you can use JAP 1.5, and I don't think you can make an oeupdater using JAP update. I would stick with N/A version. First upgrade to 3.50 NA, then downgrade using Lumines and NOOBZ downgrader. Then to 3.40oe with this winstaller: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/500493

You can change the language to Japanese, and swap the x/o from recovery. I can't remember the exact setting to do this, something like button remap.

You can't update to 3.50NA because your PSP is Japanese. You can only update to 3.50 Japanese, and use the 3.50 downgrader, then update to 3.40OE-A. I'm successful with my Japanese PSP, so don't worry, but you need to understand what you are doing when you downgrade.

Well correct me as I go:

I am currently on Jap firmware 3.40

I have Jap 3.50 ready to install

Switch to 3.50 HEN with the Noobz downgrader + Lumines

Install 1.5NA somehow?

Upgrade to 3.40 OE-A?

What did I miss?

Oh, and I don't yet have lumines available to me, can't find it anywhere for obvious reasons.

So isn't there any hope for my problem of having a 3.11 japanese 1006 psp that was downloaded previously?

Am I stuck like that forever? :(

Ok, Success :D

Ceramic White Japanese PSP-1000

3.40 Jap -> 3.5 Jap -> 3.5 HEN -> 1.5 NA(?) -> 3.40 OE-A

Someone tell me, my buttons are still in Japanese layout, O is reversed with X. This is good but unexpected, I like my Jap layout but i expected it to change.

What region is my PSP now? Does it have any region?

Also, can anyone provide me with links for getting ISO's etc or software I can use to make ISO's of my own UMD's, I remember a program that can dump UMD's to an ISO on the mem card but can't remember the name.

Thanks guys.

in 3.40 oe-a u dont need any ISO loaders... 3.40 oe has one built in. so just put ur ISO or CSO games in the ISO folder in the root of ur mem stick.

Thanks guys, got it working a treat, it's great.

Tell me, I got this program, UMD DAX Dumper which lets me dump my UMD's and is exactly what i wanted, but i noticed it can dump in "DAX" files which seem to be somewhat smaller than ISO's, which is advisable format, how can i run DAX files? Same as ISO's?

Otherwise can anyone recommend a better ISO dumper. Thanks

I recommended using UMDGen for converting ISO to CSO which is smaller and you don't need any homebrew to load it, just put it in ISO folder and you can play.

It works with Japanese Lumines if you use the downgrader which support Japanese Lumines

HI there!

My question might be too complex or too simple...

I live in new zealand and I read you guys saying about American PSP and Japanese PSP... how do I know which one is sold over here?

I currently have firmware 3.11 so all I need to do is upgrade to 3.5 and then use the downgrader right?

Cheer everyone!

If circle is enter it's japanese, that's the simple one, but mainly you check by the version number on the barcode on the bottom, jap white is PSP-1000. Have a look around for the others.

Tks man!

I thought that would depend on the game just like playstation.... whereas if you play Winning eleven O is enter and if you play pro evolution soccer X is enter!

Mine is PSP1002 so again, anoher sign that it's not the japanese one!

Cheers!
