Should I get a modchip for it or go with the softmod? And which is better between them? Also, which DVD drive is better? From what I read I can see its the Toshiba/Samsung..
Anyway, I was just wondering before getting one..

I would advise a firmware mod. That way, if you decide you want to revert the 360 back to its original state for whatever reason or upgrade the firmware, it will be easier as you won't have to go through the hassle of removing the chip.

At the moment, I can't see what advantage a chip has either: the firmware plays all backup games (at least, I've had none that didn't play for me and I'm running an old firmware), the firmware is much easier to upgrade and remove if desired, the firmware doesn't cost nearly as much; you can even do it yourself if you're a little tech savvy; and, from what a few Electronic technicians who do the chips and firmware mods told me, the chips run a high risk of damaging the internal workings of the console itself.

Go to google and search for Xbox Scene. I think they've got some good tuts on the matter; you could also try the search function here on Afterdawn. I'm pretty sure a few people have covered it.
