Hi everybody, i have recently started backing up my games when i encountered a problem. i backed up a game but when i play it the screen was all shaky and stuff i am using a memorex DVD-R. My question is that does the type of DVD matter? if it does any recommendations? and does it matter if i use DVD-R or DVD+R

Sorry if this question has been answered already..

Well memorex is the worst kind of media you can use. The top three are Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Sony. The general concensus seems to be DVD-R for the fat ps2 and DVD+R for the slim ones. But remember to booktype if you are using DVD+R.

Not really. Slim PS2s also work well with DVD-Rs. If there is a PS2 that crucially needs DVD+R, it's the brand new slim silver PS2s.

one more question does the speed of the burning rate matter? im burning at 1X speed.
I am using the slime ps2 so if i use DVD+R or DVD-R it won't matter?
Do they sell those DVD's at futureshop or bestbuy?

Thanks again!

I don't have a slim PS2 so that is just based on what I've read. Though from personal experience and from what I read on the difference between the two media I have to say if your PS2 can read both I would go with +R. Burn speed differs from media to media. Rule of thumb is usually half of the max speed of the media. Just burn a couple of disc and you'll be able to tell what speed you should be burning at. The burned surface should be smooth so if you are getting rings or some areas appear darker then others then you're burning too fast.

Like I said memorex just plain sucks so that is the main reason and the rings thing goes for if you're burning too slow as well.

Check best buy's website. I bought 100 pack of Sony's just last month and 100 pack of Verbatim's the month before that so they do carry it. I just buy which ever is on sale. But if neither are then it would probably be cheaper to get Taiyo Yuden from sites like supermediastore.com.

For the Verbatims 16x I was able to burn at 12x with great results but for the Sony 16x I had to burn at 4x to get the same results. It depends on your burner as well so burn a couple and check the smoothness. No problem. Good luck and have fun.
