I just bought a new Inspiron E1505 laptop and it came with a TSSTcorp TS-L632D dvd burner. The computer is running Windows Vista Business edition. I'm trying to backup a dvd I have, but the ripping is so slow. For my last burner, which was slow at first, I had to flash the drive. Is this something I need to do or is there another option? I already checked and the drive is already in ultra DMA mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need any other info, please tell me where to find it and I'll get back to you. Thanks!

ahx63,
That burner has had problems in the past and you can Google for the problems. If the drive is ripping the DVD to the HD @ 2X then the drive is probably locked to that speed for ripping. If it was me I would return the drive and have them replace it or even a better idea is to just replace the burner w/ a better one as the Toshiba/Samsung drives are not that good

I've seen a lot about this burner around the internet, but haven't seen any solutions that work for me. Do you know of any way to unlock the ripping speed? Thanks!

ahx63,
I wish there was a hack for you but I could not find one. Complain to Dell about the burner not being able to "copy DVD Computer files" to the HD faster than 2X and see what they say. They might replace it w/ a different burner.
