How do I downgrade from 3.4 OEA if I cannot run software off the Memory Stick?

This is a silly question, and I'm sure I've read of a way to do it via usb, but I'll be darned if I can find it now.

I updated from 3.10 OE-A to 3.40 OE-A using the files at psp-hacks.net. The patch went great, although I used L1+Triangle to force it. I was at 30% battery but on AC (through USB) power, so I did not see the harm.

However, now that I am in the new firmware, I cannot access the memory stick from the Games menu. It's there, it just does not react to any buttonpresses.

I have tested the other menus (pictures, music, etc) and they all work great.

So my current plan is to downgrade to 1.50 and then upgrade back to 3.40 OE-A. Is there any way to do this if I cannot run software off my memory stick, or am I boned?

I can get into recovery console just fine -- maybe I should put oeupdmaker in the /psp/game/recovery eboot area, then replace it with 340oeflasher when I'm done?
