As you said if he has an original box he should be using version 4. His problem may be the fact that he/she has not updated to version 4. Maybe they had version 3 on it at one stage as this caused this type of problem and they never done a factory reset when or if they upgraded/downgraded.
What version is on their box now.

Bad advice I would say. I presume they have checked all their cabling and signal strength coming into their house as this would cause the same symptoms as this, i.e. freezing and picture break up.

The only differences are 255 will not autoroll version 4 will, also the EPG is a bit better on v4 due to the auto time fix. Version 4 was brought out after version 3 caused a lot of freezing. The previous solid version in Ireland was 2.58. Thats me for the evening good luck with it.
Seen the signal quality before I was about to leave ask them to check all their cabling and if necessary to put in a booster. If that doesn't solve it change the internal cabling to a good quality CT-100 and use proper twist on RF connectors. And I would still advise the use of version 4 on a genuine box. Maybe this is been caused by the cabling upgrade at the tap end.

two weeks ago i bought 2 variable boosters and 2 x 5 co ax splitters , he said those boosters would power an appartment block.
so i will run each unit its own co ax lead from the splitter, also got connections and cable.
as i suspected from previous posts not v4 problem but lack of strong quality signal.
cheers thanks
ps boxes started with 255,300,400 and factory resets
and he was told go back to 255, and factory resets

Guys, this thread is gone so big now that it's getting hard to keep up. Can I ask a question.
I have an original (Starview1) clone box.Picture is freezing something terrible these days. Any suggestions on what firmware I can use and where I would get same firmware bearing in mind it is a CLONE.
Many thanks.You guys are great.

What is your general location and as it is a clone I assume you have version 2.57 fixed on it? How long have you had the Starview?

As I was discussing a couple of pages back just before my holidays I heard that new firmware will soon be released for the starview 1 & 2 is this true and if so does anyone know when?

Scouser,
I'm in South of Ireland. Yes I do have 2.57 firmware at present and my starview is a clone of about 8 months old bought from the star*iewbox.co.uk site. Do I need version 4 api?
Hope that helps.
GF

If you have a clone you cannot use any other firmware on a clone box unless you want it to die the firmware you have on it at present is the best for the clone box ok
