If you have a mobile phone with a camera, switch it to camera mode. Point the remote at the camera lens and press some buttons , and you should see the infra-red LED flashing on the screen. If you don't see it flashing, then yes, the remote is dead.If you do see it flashing, then it's not the remote.
If the remote still works Martin , open up the screws on the b0x and check the connectors are tight at the LCD screen , they could be a bit loose

If you can martin , try a factory setting and turn the b0x off for a min then continue with a fresh installation , it might work

Martin
Do a factory reset first then turn the box off at the back for a min ok then turn box back on again then do your flash with the box in standby mode then when the flash is finished turn the box back off again then either do a rescan or put channel dump on the box then turn it off again and connect to tv check the scart lead for any pushed in pins or bent ones ok or any foreign object stuck in or around it try that and let me know thanks
Also check the main provider lead going into the the box is it frayed or is there any of the wire mesh on the inside touching the main wire inside the cable

Hi Martin
Are you using a splitter on the feed if so you might need a booster on the line also try changing the scart lead as well see if this works
