Ive been having trouble with backing up games. I followed the steps using DVD Decrypter with the Iso Read/Write format to backup the games, and even burn the image at 1x!!! But when i try it on the ps2 it dont work. I read that it could be the media, but I use Sony 16x DVD+Rs, and i had other +Rs and they worked fine. When I play backup dvd movies, I use DVD+Rs and it plays it flawlessly!! What am I doing wrong? Does it matter the kind of mod I have, could it be that it dont play newer games? Because I have no problem what-so-ever copying PS1 games and they play fine. I even tried using Swap Magic 3. And still nothing with these. Im just about tired, I used about 50 dvds and only got 3-4 to play fine!!! What can I do?

16x DVDs are best burnt at 12x speed. Also, movies are completely different to games, so dont try to compare the two.

If your using +R are you remembering to booktype them? What games are you trying to run since some needs to be rebuilt. I use Sony 16x and burn them at 4x and as of today I don't have a single one that doesn't playing using Swap Magic 3.6.

I followed the steps in order to booktype on DVD Decrypter, but for whatever reason the settings dont stay. I go to the booktyping icon. I have a Nec drive. So I select that. Under the change for box, if I choose any other option besides: Drive (for DVD+R DL Media) It comes up FAILED. But with this, I change the New Setting to DVD-Rom, hit change, screen comes up saying SUCESS. When I click okay, in the original menu, the booktyping remains to say DVD+R. Any idea why?

Yeah, I couldn't get the booktyping to work in DVD Decrypter. I use Nero to burn my disc and it booktypes automatically. Sorry.

Yea, so I just tried the Nero process and with the DVD-Rom booktyping, and I still get nothing from it! What the heck am I doing wrong? I followed all the steps to the T! It seems like when it reads the game in my system, the lense goes all crazy in there, can it screw up my lense with all these dummy copies? Ill pay someone to help me figure this out, I just need help....... :(

I never changed my booktyping in DVD Decrypter. I did use DVD-R media though. The log says it is booktyped DVD+R when it burns and the games play fine. Maybe try a different type of media for your backup?

I thought Sony's would have been the best. But what would be next in line, what would you suggest? Brand, Speed, - or +. I feel so clueless and ashamed to call myself a tech......lol

The common theme as far as media goes is use Verbatim DVD-R. Speed...everyone recommends against the 16x. Slower=better? There are many people here that have far more experience with different media and I'm sure a little browsing the forums will help you decide. For the record...and I know there are going to be people laughing at this...I use the least favorite media since I just started...Memorex. Cringe all you want...for my first games I wasn't going to go spend a bunch of cash if this whole "backup" thing was a load of crap. The spindle has been collecting dust on the shelp until now. I do plan to upgrade all my backups in the future to solid media like Verbatim.

Sony 16x DVD+R are great for me. I used them and booktype them using Nero and as of today have not had a single game that does not play with about 200 ps2 games. I also use Verbatim 16x DVD+R and they work just as well. It's more how you burn them then the whether they are 16x or 8x disc. Verbatims I burn at 12x and Sonys at 4x.

If you want the best media that money can buy it is Taiyu Yuden 8X Silver top. DVD-R. I have burned about 50 games on these and EVERY ONE has worked flawlessly. Taiyu Yuden is also proven to be easier on your PS2 lens.
