Hi,
I have notice that the quality and size (in Gb) of the copy of the movie is the same (2,8G) no matter if I use platinum or express. Is there a way to increase the size and as a result the quality of my back-up copy so it can fill a blank dvd (4,7G)?

Thanks
ILIAS

you are using xcopy and the quality of the backup does depend upon how you look at the movie. If you project to 60", you might see some pixelation and other artifacts that you might not see at 25" or so. I am not sure how you can vary the compression with xcopy and you might want to check out the xcopy forum...

A better program to do this is DVD Shrink.
This program is free and easy to use with guides here at AD and here:

Sorry it is the weekend and time for weekend humour......

A simple fix to follow:

Remove the backup, insert the original - wallah ------- Perfect quality......LOL....

Just a slight rib tickler....have a giggle....

Anyway, to your problem, as you stated, you have over a gig left on your backup......Never used platinum or express....

However, what movie is it, is this a full disc backup or just movie, is it a dvd5 or dvd9.....

But as Koola mentioned - DVD Shrink will rip it and compress - to whatever you like, so you can fully utilise the full dvd and increase your quality......

However, you will have to process the original again as you will not be able to improve your backup.....

Follow the link that Koola suggested, great guide for DVD Shrink there, and you can preserve/strip what you want.......keeping a higher quality that you currrently have......

Thank you yuedana, koola and baabaa for your answers. I know about DVD Shrink, but I'm talking about dvd xcopy platinum wich cost me 150$ and promises best quality picture. Are you satisfied with the quality of your copies? Is there a way with xcopy platinum to have a copy of a titleset of 6G to a 4,7G blank dvd and not a 2,8G copy? And for weekend humour to baabaa I would say that when you pay for a back-up software you want a very good copy and not the original for wich you have already pay

ILIAS, yes it was supposed to be humourous and I can take your point, sorry if it caused any offense....

I have this problem of pointing out sarcasm in posts etc, and stating the obvious, but yes your exactly correct, backup software is for making alomost perfect backups.......however this is impossible if it is a DVD9 and you want to preserve the full disc....

I have no experince with the 321 studio software packages, you may be better looking at the following forum http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/

I only preserve the movie, as this is my preference and I can keep the quality very high by doing it this way.....

Just for the record, I use:

Dvd Decrypter
Dvd2one
Recordnow DX

This gives me exceptional quality and therfore very happy....

It maybe down to internal settings of the software, but I am very surprised that a program will compress data down to 2.8Gb, rather than closer to the 4.36Gb size....

Again it maybe better to ask this at the above link, sorry I could not be any more helpful as my experience is basically nothing woth the 321 studio products.....

$150 for something that produces poor results, in my opinion is a waste of money, and yes I can agree with you in that respect.......is it an option of asking for a refund and trying out some other method?

Feck that, people should appreciate a sense of humour. I appreciated it BaaBaa. Without our sense of humours, this place could be very boring. Who's going to make the funny comments then? Who's going to be giving me something to laugh about as i sit and listen to Manchester United on the radio cuz those fuck-heads at sky are again not showing it live. Damn i really really pissed off about that....

Sorry bout that - sort of started rambling again

lol - I have seen it and i know the part your talking about - he he he

Here, speaking of Rockets...How am i going to get some class big rockets?? i dont know anywhere that sells them in Northern Ireland and no UK company will deliver them here. I was going to ask Herbsman if he would mind sending me over some if i got them delivered to his house, but i dont think that Royal Mail would allow it. Im running out of ideas and out of time :-(

Yeah, were not playing with them, but using them for a specific reason - gettin rid of the CEO of sky seems like a valid enough reason for me.......2 users here will be pleased of the outcome....LOL

Oriphus I feel for you man, I am off to Alton Towers on Saturday for a spectacular display, they normally have some major rockets 1000 ft etc......with an amazing sound....lovely...

I'll don my camo, and commando rolls and see what I can come away with.....goood for you.....

baabaa,
sorry if my anwser made you feel uncomfortable about your sense of humour.I didn't want that and YES we all need it. It's just that the software I bought is much less than I expected.
Yes I'm thinking about asking for refund and stick to DVDShrink that I use till now.Otherwise I have to find a girfriend rich enough to buy me 2 or 3 copies of the originals - it's the easiest way.
Thank you very much for your reply and suggestions.

No worries ILIAS, I do agree that for $150 it should do what it says on the tin....have you had look in at the dvd xcopy forums to see if anyone can help out.....

Other than that - get a refund and try some of the other programs available - a lot cheaper and easier to obtain your required results....

Here's the dvdxcopy forum. http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com

BaaBaa - maybe we could steal some of those massive rockets and launch them at a certain CEO's house one night. We'll claim it was an accident and then say we saw Koola doing it LOL :-D

If any police and/or security personnel reading this, we are actaully joking :-D

baabaa and Oriphus,
Searching the forum to get a solution, I realise that you're both masters of the game, maybe since I was watching black&white tv (thank God I'm not so old!). Another reason for me not to play it smart and believe me I'm not.I know that baabaa doesn't like DVD Shrink but I'm using it till now with NeroBurning and, excluding time (~2hours analysing, encoding and burning), it works ok. Is there a way to burn with DVD Shrink, only the movie with no menu or extras?
Thank you

Cheers for the grats......

Actually contrary to belief, I do like DVD Shrink - especially for it's capabilities, however I only backup the movie and find DVD2One gives me the best results.......

However a certain user here has been bustin my balls to give DVD Shrink a full trial (no mame mentioning....you know who you are....LOL)

Look at the re-authoring guide at http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/DVD_Shrink_Re_Author.htm

Look for the largest title, this is usually the movie, just drag it over, select the correct audio you want, and also the level of compression needed (if the bar is not green already)...

Then point the process to a VIDEO_TS folder, hit backup......

You should then be left with a perfect authored VIDEO_TS folder, just itching to be burned to a dvdr.......

I don't think I have missed anything out - if I have someone pop in and correct me.....

Hope this helps....

In DVD Shrink Version 3 beta 5, the main movie will have a seperate folder where it will be contained, therefore making it easier to find. You really should use DVD Shrink more BaaBaa ;-D

I really don't see the point in taking a full back up of a DVD (extras and everything) if you own the original, but it takes all sorts to make this world spin.

LOL, Oriphus - funny your the second user to mention that, must have some truth in it....

I do know how to use it but the earlier version (not off the top of my head) but to me it is self explanatory, with being relatively conversant with dvd structure - with thanks to afterdawn members........

So my mission is to be able to learn DVD Shrink by reading the problems others are experiencing and actually NOT use the software at all.....LOL

Probably should not be giving advice really...LOL

But I agree with Loaded, do people really just sit there with their spouses and say - 'what about watching the spiderman extras tonight dear to really get you in the mood'....LOL...

But it is down to preferance at the end of the day, I do prefer the trade off for higher quality than keeping the extras etc.....

Nah, Stockport Born and bred, but seen plenty of the UK including Wales.....

Mainly from the top of cliffs.....and wearing red wellies.....LOL

Nick is based on my name......can you guess what it is???????? I believe it is closely related to the types of houses in the country then known as another name......

Bet that confuses you a wee bit......

If not have a look at Oriphus's site, you may find it there.....

Unfortunately I cannot offer any prizes, only congratulations to the winning guess......

Also, If anyone wants to know BaaBaa's name and why its related to sheep, think about who looks after sheep?? Thats a cracker clue - his first names Paul, you work out the rest lol
