Disc Tray Problem, help!

I took the top off my fat PS2 to fiddle with the Laser, I had been getting many DREs, and I accidently popped the disc tray out. Now I can't get it back in. I get the small white lever into the groove on the bottom of the disc tray, but it won't properly raise the laser when I push the tray in. Is their a guide on how to put it back in, or is there something I am missing?

Pull it all the way out and before you put it in. Push the white cog all the way to the right. Hold it there and put on your tray. Let it go and push you tray all the way in. Ive ran into that problem and thats what I did.
