raw dump faulty drive error message

Aloha,
I just purchased the LG 8164b drive and a USB to IDE cable so I can hook it up to my laptop. Downloaded and installed Raw Dump 2.0 and .net Framework 2.0. But when I use Raw Dump I get a message "You might have a faulty drive" I know the drive works because I can play regular DVDs on it. On another thread it says the USB to IDE cable could be the problem. So before I go and buy another cable for those who got their LG drive to work, what cable are you using and where did you purchase it.
I also tried inserting the Wii game into the drive while starting Raw Dump but no success.
Has anyone encountered this error? I am going to hook up the drive and see if it works on my desktop but I really want to hook it up to my laptop.

Just tried it with a CP technologies IDE to USB (from newegg)- didn't work for Rawdump either...

I tried this enclosure and everything worked fine. Was able to back up all my Wii games with Raw Dump 2.0.
