Black screen after downgrading.....but works?

I have just downgraded to 1.5 from 3.03 using GTA. I have done this several times before successfully. This time I got as far as the blue multilanguage screen and after pressing 0 , the screen went black. I can access the memory card via usb and blind navigation. The screen will periodically come on and go black again if I press any button. Games load....I hear the sound, but cant play. Whats wrong? Can I fix it?
