I installed my new Pioneer DVR-111D in my XP computer today. Neither XBCr nor ImgBurn can see my blank media. I went to Wal-Mart and bought some HP discs just to see if they would work. Nope. I dropped a Maxell DVD+R (single layer) disc that already had data on it in the drive and it read it with no problems. Any ideas?
BTW, the Verbatim packaging says:
Made in Singapore
2.4x
"Up to 6x speed with compatible drives"

You're completely sure it doesn't read them? are you sure it just doesn't auto play? (stupid question, but i had to ask)
also, have you tried restoring it to stock FW (i believe that would be 1.23) and then re-flashing?

No auto playing - it just won't read them.
I downloaded an older version of the SW and it only gave me an error saying "hey, you have something newer" (I think). I tried reloading 1.29 and it gave an "already have this version" error. I'll try again to put an older one on though. Thanks!

Nope, doesn't work. I tried to downgrade to ver 1.23 and all it says is "FW is the latest".

have you tried dumping the firmware first, then re-flashing it? there's a couple diff FW dump tools if you look around.

I had the same problem - it wouldnt autoplay or recongize anything, so i went and ordered the Pioneer 112D Burner, you may have a bad laser like i did or the same situation.

Yes, all three programs I tried to burn with said that there was no disc (or that it was not recognized). You could here the disc spinning up and down in the drive for quite a while.

It was a bad drive. Bought a 112D and just slapped it in. It sees the disc (I'm assuming it will burn one without problems). Thanks!

yeah, the 111d's have a lot of defects, and some of the tech support is retarded, they couldn't even find the right firmware for THEIR product, but once they did, they were great

I did an RMA with geeks.com - I guess I'll see in a week if they give me the money back but I am 99% sure that they will.
