My Wii is installed with wii key.
Wii Version:Jap NTSC(J)

I have some back ups of wii games in my com currently,
tried to burn it using SONY DVD burner.
Tried the following 2 types of discs so far.
-OnLine DVD+R
-Imation DVD-R

However,
it is either unable to read the disc or disc error in the middle of the game.
yet...the back ups bought from shops worked out fine...

May I know what's wrong with this?

To be exact,
What type of disc should I use?
Just Verbatim DVD-R(According to related threads)
or any other types?
At what speed?6X or 4X?

By the way,
is it true that as long as wii is updated to the latest version,
there won't be any problem with updating from NTSC(U) or PAL disc(required by the games)?

I have spent days to sort out out the problem, please help me by providing the right info.=(

Thanks a lot.

Since other backups work fine then you can more then likley rule out a problem with the Modchip instillation.

I would try some Verbatim/Tayio Yuden/Maxell DVD-R media. Keep away from the DVD+R if possible. DVD-R seem to be better compatible with most Wii systems.

Download ImgBurn from the link below and burn at 4x...

You also need to make sure the Wiikey region override is ON. (You need it turned on to play PAL and NTSC(U) Game Disc)

The issue also could be a region compatibility issue. Not all PAL and NTSC(U) Game disc are compatible with your NTSC(J) Wii system.

You can check the game region compatibility at the link below.

Since you have an NTSC(J) system you will look up the game title under the NTSC(U) TO NTSC(J) or PAL TO NTSC(J) sections. The site should tell you if the game title is region compatible or not.

I tried to burn 'The Bigs",
the game works initially but it shows"gmae disc error" again in the middle of the game...
I have tried to convert to Jap using region free, but it still doesnt work.

Another one is a japanese game,NTSC(J) if not wrong,
still,"game disc error" appeared half way...

This is more then likley a media issue. You need to try different media.

You also might want to spend some money on a Wii cooling fan...

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802575

it could be that the Wii is getting to hot and causing the issue.

When I get disc error I just need to eject and reinsert the disc. The game will continue without any problems.

But I have tried a different burner with the same speed and it works fine.

I tried burning with all different speed 1x 2x and 4x. 2x and 4x have no problem what so ever.

I also got a Sony dvd burner and it sucks, so I don't use it because I get disc error. I use my pioneer or my HP dvd writer.

I see,
thanks for the info,
I will try to get it done as soon as possible,

but really hope that there wont be any problem again.

But I just could not understand why the games sold in shop(backup ones) are working so fine, yet the one I burned is totally different with that using the same disc.

SO UNFAIR!!

I have personally found the sony dvd-r's to work the best for the wii. My xbox360 and ps2 don't really care what type of media I use, but for some reason (maybe a weak laser?) the wii and previously the gamecube always needed good quality organic die's on the media that I burned. Oh well. I have a ton of sony dvd-r's now so I don't mind.

Looks like DVD-R disc is the disc to be used for buring Wii.
Some quality disc are Verbatim, Ridata, etc.
How baout burner ? Can someone recomment what burner to be used to back up Wii games, especially if you have successfull done so.

Verbatim-r at 4x would only work for me if Booktype was set to media type, specifically not set to dvd-rom.

Try using TDK DVD-R. I got mine from costco it work very well never had a bad backup, and also slow down the burning speed so you can get solid burn, recoment 2x unless you have the good burner like LG or Pionner. Just to make sure keep that in mine, before you burn double check the game's ISO 4.37 (4,699,979,776)
