Are spare batteries for the PSP safe??

I'll be going on holiday soon and want to buy some spare batteries for my PSP but I don't know if they can be damaging. There are hundreds for sale on eBay but I'm guessing that very little of them are 'official'.

Has anyone had a bad experience with spare batteries?

I purchased an Ignite clipon battery pack that charges the primary battery. Works well except you cannot charge both through the additional battery pack. Sorry cant tell you if it is 'official' as purchased second hand and can't read the specifications on unit. (rubbed off)
