I've ran into a couple ad's on ebay of people selling 'authentic' microsoft warranty labels. 1: is this legal? (probly a dumb question, but i'm not too familiar with the law) and 2: how can it be authentic, you can't get the stickers off w/o damaging them!!!

My guess is that it is illegal because of the fact that it allows people who have alreayd voided their waranty to make it seem as if they have not opened there cosole.
They could be real because I have heard of people using heatguns to moisten the glue and remove them without the damage.

They are real and if it was illegal then ebay would take off the listings

I dunno, maybe they worded it differently to get around what eBay would normally filter. Sounds kinda illegal to me.

It's just a warranty sticker. I don't see what would make that illegal. Somones just selling a sticker...that's not illegal! It may not be right in Microsoft's eyes but it aint illegal.

if you think about they paid for that sticker with the purchase of their console, and i guess they can do whatever they want with the sticker.

I thought about selling them myself when I mod 360s, but in the end I just rip them off unless some specifically requests me not too. It's not to hard to remove them without damaging them when you heat them up with a hair dryer 1st.

Ok, so this guy heated them up w/ a hairdyer, meaning they're authentic? hmm, that can't be legal, isn't that fraud? i don't know, i'm just throwin it out there

I don't think just selling the sticker is fraud, but it's obvious people would only buy them with the intent to commit fraud.

are you guys kids?
of course its illegel because it is its fraud.
just because its not been pulled from ebay dont make it legal.
about the only thing ebay will pull from there site is copyright imfringement. as for the stickers, if you buy one and put it on a system that you have opened up then you have committed fraud, plain and simple..... but if you dont get caught then..lol :)

lately with the heat of summer the consoles have been coming apart with little to no damage on the warranty stickers. All ive done is pulled them apart....not trying to take any care of the sticker

its not illegal
what the buyer might use it for after buying it is illegal but that has nothing to do with ebay

yeah, i brought that up with microsoft. i asked them what if i opened it my self to fix it cuz my warranty was expired. they told me too bad pretty much, but as long as that sticker is intact, they'll service it :D

it is NOT illegal to sell the stickers after all. now what you do with the stickers may be, but in batespcm's case, I believe that's acceptable, although i'm not entirely sure that it's supposed to get a sticker again once it's returned. i would start another thread for that

selling warranty isn't illegal, It just voids it, since all most all warranties are NON-TRANSFERABLE.

fraud in the inducement - fraud which intentionally causes a person to execute and instrument or make an agreement or render a judgment; e.g., misleading someone about the true facts

I have lost all and any respect i had for this site!
