How do you burn video onto a Dvd?

I have some video files I would like to burn onto a dvd but whenever I try it says there not the right type of file. It says I need to convert them into Dvd files, is there a program that can do this?

Depends what format they are in. If they are in AVI format, convert to mpeg2 using TMPGEnc. If they are in mpeg2 format convert to VOB (DVD) format using TMPGEnc DVD Author. Then burn in Nero as DVD ROM UDF/ISO inside a VIDEO)TS folder
