Just purchased/installed an LG 4040B.
To get up to speed, I am thinking of using RW media for data (not movies/video) as I can correct my errors - I hope. Would have to be +rw or -rw as I am unable to locate no-caddy rams. The burns would be "disk-at-once" or whatever is the equivalent to this cd burner standard. In other words, no packet writing.
Speed is not important; I just want good archives.
Is this an ok way to go or should data be left to dvd-ram and movies/videos to the "r" variants?

Data is fine being burnt on DVD RW, im not sure whether to use -RW or +RW, use which ever your drive supports. If its both, buying the cheaper of the two formats.

You will not get any errors burning a data disc on standard DVD-R but if you don't believe me or are not sure do use a DVD-RW and then copy that directly on to a DVD-R when you are satisfied that it's all fine.

Also, remember that some RW's wont play on some standalones whilst R's may still play...
