Once I am at 3.40 OE-A, can I bascially start dloading emulators and then load them onto mem stick to play the games?

I am using a MAC, so its easy for me to just to drag and drop the files onto mem stick when it appears on my destop, will i need to boot up under a windows OS to run any .exe files that are required to play ROMs or load 3.40 OE?
I would just upgrade to 3.40OE-A to start with, as it is the recent cfw that is the most stable..If you decide to upgrade to the 3.51, or 3.52 custom firmwares later on, thats up to you..I would wait until the updates are done and all the kinks are worked out of those new custom firmwares before upgrading though...

Once you get your psp downgraded-head over to psp-hacks.com and get your emulators there-they just go into either the GAME or GAME150 folder on your memstick (depends on the emulator)-and you should have no problem dragging and dropping files from your MAC as long as you can see the PSP when its plugged in..The psp doesnt use .exe files, so you should be OK there.

Yes, yes, yes, once you receive the lumines you are saved. I borrowed mine from a friend of mine ( I almost bought on ebay but naahhh don't want to spend extra $30-40 on that game). Just follow the step by step instruction and you'll be okay. And read carefully otherwise a "bricked" psp would occur. Deez nutz would probably better on giving you advise on that as I'm just newbie as well and my friend help me lil' bit on first installation. Good luck and enjoy the 3.40 OEA as I do (my games is now 35 and counting LOL guess how much money would you spend on buying those UMDs???).

thanks guys, got my Lumines today in the mail. Just successfully upgraded to 1.50. Is there anything else I need to do to get to v3.40 OE...or just read the guide to get there? anything that I need to do to ensure my wireless access still works or anything?

Just reformat your memory stick to clear off the files you used to get to 1.50 then proceed with the installation of 3.40 oe-a.

Your wireless will be fine. If anything you might have to re-input the settings for a connection once you've finished upgrading but thats about it.

I run into issues when trying to load ISO'd specifically GTA:LCS and Burnout Dominator. I see the game preview in my mem stick, but when i load the game...screen stays black and I have to reset. Any ideas? I have tried loading those with kernal i.50 and also with my kernal 3.40. Can I even play those games?

Yes, FF1 and 2 and hotbrain all work...must be bad rips. I am really having difficult loading GBA roms as well. I have me emu installed, which folder do the ROMS go in though? I have GpSP and it always reads error loading type of thing, and also have pspVBA but the game runs very very slow. Any tips?

the specific error i get when trying gpSP is The Game could not be started (8002014c), this is the same for the SNES emu and the Dgen emu. I do have a GBA game, but I have no clear folder of where to put it for GPSP. Where d my GBA Roms go into, so that I can access them when i try to run gpSP?

My mem stick root folders looks like...
ISO (where my ISOs are)
MP Root (i dont mess with it)
Music
Picture
PSP
|
+Common
+Game (where all my Emus are for GPSP etc)
example -
>gpSP : Eboot.PBP and gameconfig.txt
>gpSP% : Eboot.PBP

+Game 150 (i have nothing in here)
+Game 340 (i have nothing in here)

The roms should go in the same folder as the emulator-You may have to create a rom folder-I never had much luck with the GBA emulators, so I have pretty much given up on those a while back-I stick to NES & SNES for the most part..I would try posting a thread in the "psp-homebrew" section-or scroll through the threads in that forum to see if anyone else has the same issue.

Try moving your emulator folders over to the GAME150 folder-and set your kernel to 1.50 in the recovery console.

I sometimes having that issue as well but I guess the ISO files are corrupted and I have to redownload again. All games that I have so far running smoothly with no problem but on the other hand my own PSP now has issue with the UMD drive, it sometimes won't load the disc, I have to open and reinserted the disc few times and after that the UMD logo will load on it. Do you guys think I need to replace the laser or something? I don't think it has something to do with the firmware right? as all applications running smoothly and besides there's like wierd noise when the UMD spinnning.

Yeah, that sounds like the UMD drive is about to go-You could try cleaning it out with some canned air-but if its making odd noises like that-you'll probably be in the market for a new UMD drive soon.

Deez Nutz, If so do I need to reinstall all the firmware all over again? in order to open the UMD drive and replace it?

No, you dont need to reinstall the firmware, but its a pain getting to that UMD drive-because it requires taking out the LCD and the motherboard and theres lots of little ribbon cables that are extremely fragile-but if you are good with your hands, and have patience- it shouldn't be too difficult..

well when you have homebrew and emulators on your psp-you usually have two folders you put on the memstick- for example: "emulator_a" & "%emulator_a%" if you delete the corrupted data icon which is the dummy folder (the one with the percent sign %) your program wont work-it needs that dummy folder to operate..An easy way to fix this is to go into recovery mode and select "configuration" then enable "hide corrupt data icons"-that will take care of your problem...

@grimmboy-I am not aware of any conflicts with pictures at all...Is your memory stick a genuine? Scroll to one of the memory stick icons in the psp menu-either under game,video,music..it doesnt matter, and hit triangle so you get the information tab-then hit X to display your memory stick status..
USER CAPACITY: x amount of GB's
FREE SPACE: x amount of free space
MAGICGATE: Supported

If yours says "unknown" or is blank after MagicGate..you more than likely have a fake memory stick.. And this causes problems with pictures, videos, gamesaves, and iso's not working properly..

You can try restoring your default settings in the psp settings menu-be advised you will have to reset your clock, and network settings, but I would give that a try...

Indeed...

Well it looks like you are on the right track there, at least you got a psp that someone already took the trouble of downgrading for you...The games you download usually come in rar format...You need to extract the ISO from the archive so it will work on your psp...

First, make sure that winrar is not associated with iso's..->options>settings>file type or file integration

Uncheck ISO if its checked...

Go to the rar file you have downloaded, and extract it to a folder of your choosing...It should then produce an iso file for which you can then transfer to the ISO folder on your PSP's memory stick..

thx DEEz...looks like it is a file size restriction. I read that that some file sizes may not work, as well as some file types that wont work, the pic I tried was JPEG between 1MB-2MB. I tried one that is 667k and it works fine.
