nero will probably shrink them to fit. however when i make long home movies i make a folder in my hard drive, then put the pieces together using nero, then save big/huge files to hard drive. (using nero make your own dvd tools) then i shrink this freshly made movie using dvd shrink. it is a freware program. there are guides and downloads on this website. also read more guides and some of the forums as there are alot of people more knowledgeable than us. good luck to you.
p.s. you didn't say what format the movies are in but this method works great for 20+ gigabyte .avi files. for me it was cheap and easy but the smarter than me folks may or may not be horrified.
P.s.s. keep reading.

i've been looking at dual layer discs and they seem exspensive so is there any way to copy dvd's over 4.3g or whatever gig it is to single layer discs ?

does anyone understand what i mean ?

also i can't find it anywhere but what is the difference between +R and -R ?

ok so i have looked and it seems like i'll have to rip to the computer and compress it from there

so how do i rip it ?
and how do i compress it ?

Have a look here, DVDFab HD Decrypter now and all free programs: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154 or you should see something here, freeware or payware: http://webpages.charter.net/bacitup/Guides.htm Be aware that DVD Decrypter(not DVDFab HD Decrypter) hasn't been updated in I'm not sure how long and won't break Encryption on newer DVD's and also Ripit4me more recently. Also, you may want to backup just the main movie, the quality may suffer below about 70%.

thanks i'll check that but i think it's due to me working from an external hard drive running off a usb 1.0 port thinga SLOW but it works that's the main thing

but now i have a another question
the first disc i did after creating the iso image it looked like this

and second time around it looked like this

and the img file said MDS instead and all the settings where the same and it still burnt fine but it said it was only 4kb in size and what's with all the other files ? i'm confused

please explain

oh right i just seen the meaning for MDS so i understand now but why did it change from the first disc ?

EDIT: LOL i think i've just answered my own question the first disc was done on the actual computer and the second one was done on the external hard drive which has something to do with that FAT32 thing doesn't it
Quote:
it should be noted that if the person who has created the .iso image has used FAT32 file system, it is possible that there are more than one .iso file that make up the whole DVDR disc and in this case, .mds file is important
is this correct ?

it means dvd shrink can't handle the dvd (newer copy protection) dvd shrink doesn't update anymore. so use dvd fab decrypter to rip the file first then use dvd shrink to transcode and burn or use anydvd behind dvd shrink.

clonedvd 2 + anydvd is another choice (this is my pic)

heres some guides and software
