I am new to this PS2 Back-Ups and I can't get a grip which one is better. I understand both aren't very good media, but i would like to try them first before looking for good medias. And if there is one, what's the best way to burn these medias?

*Additional Question: What is Booktype and when do i use it?

Definately use the first one. The second one uses CMC magnetics which you should stay away from.

I've burnt a bunch of TDK and Memorex CMC MAGs, and honestly, based upon my tests, scans and experience, TDK is 1000% times better than what Memorex can offer you although that's not saying much for TDK because it isn't THAT much better. TDK is the sort of brand that's not too good but not too bad either, and it has this very fine middle line of going worse or better unlike Memorex where most of their stuff is downhill and inconsistent except perhaps their RICOHJPNs, but I hardly manage to find them good ones even when buying their 4x DVD products.

Edit: and DVD+Rs can booktype to DVD-ROM as long as your burner supports that function. Make sure your firmware for your burner is updated if you're using a program like DVD Decryptor if you can't booktype even though your burner is listed under the compatible burners that can booktype but can't at the moment.

You don't necessarily need to booktype your PS2 games although it'll help in readability. A lot of people still use DVD-Rs for their old fat PS2s, and their games and their PS2 run and read respectively fine. The only time I can see you using DVD+R is when your slim PS2 cannot absolutely run DVD-R like my silver slim PS2, the difference in game quality when testing both DVD-R and DVD+R is about the same and you simply opt for DVD+R for convenience or DVD+R is better in your case.

As for what brand to recommend, I'd highly suggest Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden. If you cannot get a hold of either of them, then I suppose you can opt for Sony or even Ritek.

best place to buy your media is online at reputable shops that guarantee what they sell you is geniun, plus they give you the media ID of the discs so you know what your getting.
