(this thread is a copy of the one I made in the software boot discussion, I just thought it would get more attention here)
I received today my swap magic + swap tool and for the last SIX HOURS I've been either trying to install the last piece (the one that goes in the small gap between the metal parts) or searching for an answer on the internet.
Sometimes I can easily find the exact position and angle but I don't think it's right: when I get it positioned the console makes the sound it makes when it's about to start reading and the laser goes into place, BUT the dvd just twitches a bit, then stops and the laser (I think) starts making a weird repetitive sound (at this point I take the piece out of the position).
In my first tries I managed to get a position where the dvd spins but that was before I took the covering paper of the sticker so it didn't stay that way...
SM 3.6, I was given the same instructions by the seller.
I figured out now the reason why I couldn't get the dvd to spin. A part of the pstwo holds down the dvd, and supposedly the swap tools don't need the piece that holds down that part, but if I don't hold it manually with one hand when I set the tool b then the laser gets all weird which most probably results in damage.
I'm guessing there should be 3 pieces after all, I'm going to speak with the seller about that.
I have another doubt now. I was trying to hold that part with a small piece of paper but it was too small and it "entered" the inside of the console, can it do any harm?
I was pretty stupid. That whole laser thing happened when I was trying to fit the piece while the ps2 booted a dvd. During the swap time no reading occurs so there is really no problem.
Tomorrow I'm going to find a way to make the tool b sticky again and it's all set. Sorry for the trouble.
I can't really think of any major trouble that you'd get into from this. You say the piece of paper is small so the risk sounds negligible. It may only later become a nuisance if the piece of paper somehow becomes positioned where it interferes with the last piece's ability to hold down the switch.
That won't be a problem. During the swap time the dvd doesn't spin and I don't intend to play with the lid open, so the the last piece isn't really necessary. Thanks for the help.
