windows closes video editer program down

when i try to use ulead video studio 11 plus or Honestech Video Editer 7 windows closes it down, i add the video and run i get honestec video editer exe as encountered a problem and needs to close, also the same with ulead, I am running windoiws XP Pro ,AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core processer 4200+ and 2GB of Ram so cant see problem being my computer, but you never know.

Can you relate the problem new software being installed around the time?
Can you do a system restore back to before it showed?
