I have got a slim version of the playstation 2 and on the box it says dvd-rw playable, i was wondering if i burn a game onto one of the dvd-rw disc,would it work without swapmagic and a mod-chip

2 issues here. PS2 will not play a burnt game on rw discs (movies might work as immortal said, but I still would not recommend using rw discs). Second, your PS2 must be modded (either by modchip or swap discs) to play burnt games.
