if i was to download the backwards compatibility update and burn it to a disc then insert it into my 360 which has a memory card and not a hard rive would it still work?
the reason i ask is that when ever i try to update the xbox 1 game using xbox live it says i need a hard drive.

It tells you that a hard drive is needed because, in fact, a hard drive is indeed needed. A mem card will not work.
