what Firmware are you using?

if you dont wanna downgrade, then i assume that you are official firmware...

well, in this case, you cant. sorry.

the only way you can run unsigned code, is to have either 1.5, or a CFW. (OE)

so.... what firmware are you?

if you have the right firmware, you can downgrade with ease...

its only a 1-2% chance of bricking with some FWs.

2.80 is far from the latest official FW. :)

but still, look for a 2.80 downgrader.

if you careful in every way, downgrading can be easy! i was afraid to downgrade, so i had a friend do it. and it was fine!

downgrading is a dump of the current FW, and the writing of v1.5

so you have 2.8 -> it dumps all of your flash files outta the window and at the same time, it writes the 1.5 files over it.

you hear about it being dangerous because there is a risk of it freezing when its still writing, so when you attempt to boot it, alot of the vitals are missing, so it wont start.

but what most people dont say is, there is about the same chance of bricking while UPDATING TO OFFICIAL FIRMWARE!!!!!!!!!!!

downgrading is a little more risky, but only because its not as newb proof as updating, in which sony makes for all ages.

so i suggest you downgrade carefully, with 100% battery, and the unit plugged in with the charger. it should be successful. especially at your firmware. the bugs have probably been combed out as much as virtually possible. so your chances of bricking is almost null. (if you do it correctly)

then afterwards, upgrade to CFW 3.40 OE-A. thats the safest, and most entertaining way to go at the moment. sure you can do almost everything you can do with this in 1.5, but youll have to install extra apps that do what 3.40 does unreliably. and on top of that, there is a recovery menu, that allows you to customize safely, with a null chance of bricking!!! (cause if you DO brick when on 3.40 OE-A, you can just go into recovery and replace your flash0 files with your backup.

thats another thing, MAKE SURE you backup the flash0 files when you upgrade. (if you decide to unlock your PSP.)

in short:

this can really make your PSP more entertaining. it allows you to do ANYTHING you want to do with your PSP.

so let me know if you wanna know more, or if you did decide to unlock!

hope this long as heck post helps!!! :D

hey lordofuo, appreciate the reply, i prefer in depth answers than vague ones!! :D

i really want to get games from the internet and not have to spend £30 every time a new game comes out. But i am REALLY worried about bricking my PSP.

Since i posted this thread i have looked at a number of different videos claiming to be a tutorial but they are all so vague. What i really need is something that is made for people who dont understand in the slightest on how to do this. Such as a guide that goes into great deal. Down to stuff like...in the top right hand corner of the window underneath the X button, and not just click this!

do you know of any in depth guides for this?

as all the videos and tutorials i have briefly seen are unclear, and i dont want to get to a stage where i think oh crap i dont have that. what do i do now?!?!?

EDIT: PS could you also take a look at this

http://www.psp-vault.com/Article800.psp

how do i know what motherboard i have, and is this tutorial any good

i have also seen some of the videos have used GTA LCS why is this and do i need to if i decide to continue?

oops..... 2.81 is a different story. :(

your gonna need to get an UNPATCHED version of GTA:LCS. not the ones you would buy at a retail store now. but one that is UNPATCHED, which will be older. (the exploit doesnt work with the new patched version which all retailers carry now because of sony. :( )

you can still downgrade, but your gonna have to spend a little bit of cash though. if you wanted, you could also use an UNPATCHED copy of Lumines. but that might be more expensive, since the exploit just came out about a month ago. its the one I used to downgrade!!!! (i had 3.50)

but if you have one of these games (unpatched) or if you find a copy and buy one of these, then you need to upgrade to one of these firmwares:

if you get the unpatched copy of LUMINES: you need version 3.50. (DO NOT GET 3.51!!!!!)

if you get the unpatched copy of GTA:LCS : you need version 3.03.

MAKE SURE YOU UPGRADE TO THE EXACT ONE. (like 3.50, not 3.51/ or 3.03, not 3.30)

if you get a game, then i will PM you on where to find these firmwares.

let me know on what you decide!!

hope this helps again!!! :)
