Ipod comes up as audio book... where did my playlists go?

I used to plug my ipod nano into the xbox and play playlists that i made specially for each game but then one day when i plugged it in the ipod came up as a audiobook but i took no notice of it but then now it cant find any playlists when clearly there is because i checked on the ipod.
why has this happened?

did you upgrade your ipod system software or something right prior to the audiobook being brought up?

I can remember upgrading the actuall iTunes program but i not the Ipod itself.
Is there anyway i can get it back to normal? or atleast playing my playlists again?
