Ok I just got my PSP and i want to know what the benefits of upgrading to a homebrew software is and the negatives of it. Also I want to know how easy your PSP can brick if your doing this. and if this does anyone have a video tutorial with them talking you throught the steps of downgrading from 3.50 to 1.50 then to 3.40 Oe-a.

The benefits of using an OE (open edition) firmware, are that you can run Homebrew games and emulators, as well as UMD's and keep all the features of the normal firmwares (except Location free player). Their are no downsides.
You can only brick your psp if the power source to the psp is lost (Eg, you remove the AC adapter, battery, or just turn the psp off during the Up/Downgrade).
As for the video, just search Youtube!

ok thanks so much. I can just download a game from a torrent site and play it on the PSP throught the mem stick? And if so how much mem does one game and movie take up cuz im gonna get a 4 gb stick and want to know.

You can download games and play them off the mem stick, but, unless you own the game on umd, thats technically illegal. The smallest game size i've seen is 15mb's. and the biggest is 1.5 gb's, with a 4gb stick you should be fine. The movie size depends on the lenght and quality of the movie. I have a 2gb stick and have some back ups and a movie, as well as 50+ songs, and have plenty of space left.

If you can find a used one, most should be unpatched. I have not seen a patched one in the states yet.

You won't find one in ebgames/gamestop. Luminus had been recalled for awhile.
#1: 2.81 -> 3.03 -> 3.11 DoH (no more :D)
#2: 1.00 -> 1.5 -> 3.03oe-c
#3: Ceramic white 1.5 -> 3.03oe-c -> 3.40oe

There loads of old used lumines over here in northern ireland. Xtravision shops carry at least several at the time. In my nearest shop i got like 4 of them.... Bought one to downgrade from 2.81...
PS2 slim plugged into 42" sharp fullHD telly; AMD 3500+, 7900GTO, 2gb ram, 700gb hdd (combined)

Lumines is patched if it tells you it needs to upgrade to 3.51.

i'm pretty sure they stopped lumines in the states/canada but in japan they continued it and yeah i hear in alot of places that the new one requires the 3.51 update.

wow are u serious? no dip its confirmed! if u need 3.51 for lumines to run, then how can u use it to downgrade on 3.50??? stipid...

What was that about? We are talking about PATCHED luminus, meaning CANNOT be used for downgrade. I asked because since the recall, I have yet to see ebgames/gamestop have luminus on sale, patched or not. I want to know the updater on the patched N/A version whenever it comes out.

haasmon: ease up on blackvamp, please. There was a time when you may have had your questions, too - no doubt. I know I once had a million of them and wasn't sure where to begin.
Also, with a lot of people, every other word out of their mouth is 'brick' this or 'expensive doorstop' that, so I can see how someone would want to use extreme care in flashing their FW.
