Folks,
I've just set up a Nokia Dbox2 and unfortunately realized my cable provider is not the list and I'm not able to load any channels. I live in Portmarnock co.Dublin and the cable provider is called Broadworks Communications.

Could you please let me know if it's possible to add this provider to the list and how? Will I be able to use the dbox?

Thanking you in advance for your assistance.
Rgds,
Diego

If your subscriber box is connected via a network cable its IPTV and not traditional cable.

Sorry diegodb,
I think you are on IPTV not cable TV - there was a guy from Coolgriffin, out your way, with the same problem.

Your DBox won't work with it. PM me if you're interested in selling it

Thanks for your feedback. What does IPTV mean?

IPTV means that your TV is delivered over a cable like your broadband. Here's a definition from Wikipedia:

Quote:
A general definition of IPTV is television content that, instead of being delivered through traditional broadcast and cable formats, is received by the viewer through the technologies used for computer networks.

For residential users, IPTV is often provided in conjunction with Video on Demand and may be bundled with Internet services such as Web access and VoIP.
What it means to you is that it is a totally different system that doesn't allow the connection of your dBox. Sorry

Hi dweeb4,

unfortunately I did not sort it out at all and I don't know how to confirm if I'm on IPTV. It will be good to know how to include additional cable providers in the list and double check if I can add Broadworks Communications.

Simply check your subscriber box.
If there is only a ethernet port for input its IPTV.

Diego,
I'm also in Portmarnock but I'm on NTL. Would be interested in taking the box of your hands has I am in market for 1 at the moment if you can't get it working.

Thanks,
Noclee.

Hi Mgb17,

I've checked the box and there are 2 ports, one says "FM" and one says "TV"!! Is it cable TV?

Noclee,
I'll sell out the dbox if I cannot use it.

Hi Diego,
Sounds like it might be cable - what type of cable connects from the box on the wall to your TV? - if it's coaxial, then you're in business.

Does the cable screw on to a connection on the wall box or does it clip in?

Hi dweeb4,

the cable says "75ohm COAX W102 CCS" and it screws on to the box.
I guess I now need to understand how to had my cable provider to the dbox list.

Thanks.

OK so it's cable alright - I don't know about the dBox but on the DreamBox there is a bruteforce scan method which simply goes through all the frequencies scanning for channels - see if you have this and just scan using it.

Maybe some dBox experts can row in here

Is it coax from the wall to the box? The TV output doesn't count.
What is the name of the subscriber box?

What is the name of the box you got from your provider.
There should be a sticker at the underside of the box.

It looks like you get only channels in analogue format and there are no digital channels.
Due to the Broadworks homepage the firm offer only around 30 channels.

Yes, no sports mentioned though, so it may be out of date.

I would contact them and ask if the sports are broadcast in digital, i.e. will you need a decoder box to get them, if you do there is a chance the dbox will work.
