Whats the advantages if having Linux installed in my PS3??? I want to dabble in linux but I do not want the risk of possibly bricking my PS3. Also what would be the best Linux OS to install on my PS3???

by installing linux on your ps3, it becomes a great computer and its pretty cheap for a computer. Just connect a mouse and keyboard. If you install Linux correctly, you will not brick your ps3. I would install either Yellow Dog or Ubuntu. There are a ton of tutorials out there for how to do this.

I have all the files I need to install Linux YD but hesitant. So if you do brick your ps3 cant you just go back to using the normal PS3 XMB? I may just get a cheap 20gb if its still one out there and just do all my upgrading the HDD and OS with that one. I want my SAMe pS3 to last so I can pass it down to my kids wen the PS4 comes out. I dont want to install it if it shortens me ps3 life span.

installing linux wont shorten the ps3's life span.
you just create another partition on the hard drive to install
linux so you can always just delete this partition and go back to using the XMB.
If you are going to get a ps3 and use it mainly as a computer,
i would suggest buying the 20gb if you can still find one. then upgrading to a bigger Hard Drive. This is a lot cheaper than buying the 60gb or the 80gb.
