What is the best device for this? I've seen a few on modchipstore.com that basically seem to say they do the same thing, which is tried and true/most reliable/least likely to turn my new 360 into a giant paperweight?

no, u do NOT need those. they just help if you don't like to open your xbox frequently, however, you will need to open it.


all u need to flash ur drive is a PCI SATA card (of compatible chipset, use searchbar for details) and the correct firmware for your drive ;)

Well i have the NME360 and it works very well. I prefer the chips because the NME will AUTOMATICALLY disable itself when you insert an original disk so its like it was never modded and you can do those big updates without getting a bricked console.

Oh and to answer your question you must know how to solder very well because it must be soldered to a whole bunch of tiny little spots on the motherboard. Mess up and ur screwed. Dont mess up and ur good to go
