I tried to compress the eboot of my perfectly working final fantasy 9 disc 1 - basically i recompressed and it didnt work and unfortunately i fucked the original ISO.
So i started from scratch and ripped the ISO image from the actual disc (like i did originally) and then i downloaded and applied the patch that should be both bypassing the the initial protection AND it has an NTSC/PAL selector which all WORKED before.
Then obviously converted it to eboot and copied to my psp.
Now when i start it it plays the playstation logo as normal, then brings up tghe patch screen where u can apply cheats if u want to and then asks you to press O for NTSC or X for PAL.
Doesnt matter what i press becuase whatever i press the game no longer loads!
WHYYY!!!! Im not doing anything wrong!!!!
Please dont use computer language too much because i dont get it.. yeah?

Try doing it without applying the patch.

How will that help though?? The patch is there to bypass copy protection that has been applied to the game... thats why i applied it in the first place?

Most ISO extracting software already has protection removal software; therefore, you shouldn't need to apply anything further.
On another note: also try not to use an NTSC/PAL selector, the FFIX PAL version doesn't work on the PSP and having a toggle for both versions probably creates the same error.
I'll try getting my copy working and tell you how I did it if it works.

Sorry, I should have asked this earlier; are you running a custom XMB? PSX games don't work when you have custom icons and such installed.

Thats ok, no i am not,
I dont officially know what an XMB is but i assume its the bit on your psp where you select photo or game or music.
If so i havent changed that

OK - update - i tried to just converting a clean unpatched ISO of final fantasy 9 disc 1 but it is protected... loasds up the playstation logo and then has a black screen.
This is what i expected as the same happened with final fantasy 8 - but i applied the patch to that and it now lets me load (altho the game crashes so a bit pointless huh)
And just to reiteratre the patch WAS working with final fantasy 9, I was playing it on my psp using this exact patch for ages. I have no idea what has happened.

So other games are working? This is starting to boggle my mind.
There are only a few things left I can think to do.
1st- Back up everything on your Memory Stick, reformat it and then, before putting everything back on it, just put on a FFIX EBOOT that you make using the same method that made it work in the first place. This will rule out anything to do with your memory stick. If it works, put everything back onto your stick and hope it continues to do so.
2nd- [This is a last resort. It won't brick your PSP but probably won't work due to the fact that other PSX games are loading.] Go into your recovery menu (hold R while turning the PSP on) and go into Advanced-Advanced Configuration. Disable everything in this folder and try again. If it doesn't work, keep everything there disabled and go onto step 3.
3rd- Go into the recovery menu and click on Configuration, then disable no-UMD mode. Make sure you have a game in when you try running your game.
4th- I will personally rip a working EBOOT of FFIX and send it to you; if it doesn't work after this; then download a SNES emulator and play FFVI; it's better than FFIX, anyway.

Thanks for trying so hard for me btw!
I havent tried any of that yet btw (i just got to disc2 of FF7 so i have been excited about playing it all day - ha)
But do you know what confuses me about this... the first part of the patch works - it brings up the menu where you can select cheats if u wish.... (obvo's i DONT)
So it gets there - its almost like the patch itself isnt working - like for sum reason it no longer is bypassing the security thingy on the iso.....
I just doooonnnt get it!!
I can only ever find the same bloody patch for it though... the one with cheats etc...
seems to be the only UK PAL patch out there....
THIS IS SOOOO FRUSTRATING
Do u know what i mean though? It doesnt seem to be the psp's problem it seems to be the games... its just.... very sudden!
Very random!
ARGH!

I guess the problem was 3.52 M33; similar problems have happened where games don't work right on certain firmwares. I'm glad you got it fixed!

Actually i updated right back to 3.52 M33.
There was far too much on 3.51 that didnt work... so i decided that 3.52 won overall.. and i am sacrificing FFIX until they fix it again.
Bring on a fix for FFVIII is what i say.... i think the whole world should unite as one and come up with a solution for those crashes..
forget war, forget famine, forget poverty, forget it all....
think FINAL FANTASY WOOO!!!
