3 questions...

1)I want to upgrade my psp from 3.02 oe-a to 3.40 oe-a. Should I upgrade it directly to 3.40 oe-a or downgrade it to 1.5 then reupgrade to 3.40 oe-a.

2)If i upgrade it to 3.40 oe-a do I need to change my game folder to GAME150 and put kernel mode to 1.5?

3)Anyone can show me how to upgrade it?

1) It's easier to do it straight from 3.02 OE-A, i think you should be able to.

2) No, after you've done the upgrade, backup the files you want to keep, then format your memory stick from the option on the "System Settings" menu, this will create all the files you need automatically.

3) Download the updater from here it contains a readme which shows you what to do.

As it says in the readme, you'll need both the 1.50 and 3.40 official updates, get each of those from here:

1.50 and 3.40

Hope this is all you need :)

In the read me, it says put the oeupmaker in 'GAME150' folder, but my current game folder is 'Game'. So I change to GAME150?

Also, I read a post saying that I need to change kernel mode from 3.02 to 1.5 to run the oeupmaker.

So what do I do?

Hmm, i wasn't aware of that, i've never had to ever change my kernel mode to run a game or program, so just leave it as it is for now, you can change it if it doesn't load up.

And for the GAME150 folder, just make a new one with that name.

Go into your Recovery mode at startup, go to Advanced, plug in a usb cable and select "Toggle USB (flash0)" the folder that will display on your computer is the flash0 folder, delete this and you have a brick (which hopefully no-one would ever do), anything that flashes your psp changes these files, that is why you can get bricked psp's.

Highlight all the files in this folder and copy them to a safe place on your pc, this way, if you "semi-brick" you can go into your recovery mode and place these original un-altered files back on your psp and it will work again.

These are VERY useful, as you can try out lot's of flashers etc that change your flash0 folder, without the worry that your psp could become useless because you have a backup of it.

EDIT: I'm going to sleep now as it's nearly 2am over here, will help tomorrow if you have further questions :)

You just caught me in time :)

Well, there is no other way of accessing the flash memory of the psp (flash0), if you don' have a usb cable for the psp then i'd suggest you get one, they're very useful when it comes to flash.

Even if you don't have a specific usb cable for your PSP, you may still have the right kind of cable, as it's the generic mini usb connector, quite a few different devices use them, and often come with one in the packet with which you bought them, eg: my camera and my phone both use the same cable as my psp, so i have plenty of spares lying around.

Hmm, that's odd, maybe it's only with 3.02 OE-A? I couldn't tell you tbh...

All the newer CW's have these options:

Advanced configuration ->
Toggle USB (flash0)
Toggle USB (flash1)

Maybe it's in a different place? Look and see if it's in any of the other options.

Well then, maybe you should take the precaution of going back down to 1.5 before upgrading to 3.40 OE-A in that case, as i havn't heard of people going straight from 3.02 OE-A to 3.40 OE-A so don't know if it's checked as working, i still presume it is ok to do though...

Well done.

Now you can go into Recovery and back up your flash0 :) It'll mean you don't have to worry about getting a brick from flashing new theme's etc.
