I have a question. If you use a program that writes to the flash0 theres a chance of bricking, but if you use a program that alters the flash0 then theres a chance of a semi brick? I'm not too sure. im confuzzled

The flash is like the ram, bios, and os correct? So does it really matter what you do to it as long as you can gain access to the flash and write files to it? The flash isn't anything special that you need to take that seriously is it? It's a drive, just like anything else, right? Could be wrong...

If you have custom firmware you should be able to write files to the PSP with ease via recovery mode. And it should be taken seriously although if you brick or semi-brick you can just recover. Your flash0 contains all your important crap like your icons and stuff. So be sure you back your files up before you do anything to it.

You can actually remove the ability to loadup in recovery from Flash0. This would screw you.
Backup your flash0 before you touch anything, and know what you're touching. If you're lucky (as has been stated) you will be able to boot up in recovery and fix your flash0, if not then you'll have ruined your PSP.
Flash0 is serious business, especially if you don't know what you're doing.

Yeah, it is that serious-especially when people, and I have seen my fair share of them just start deleting random files in the flash0 to make room because of a "disk full" error so they can try their hand at adding themes and messing with icons..two words: flash agent...If you are unsure, ask, use google, but dont just start deleting files that you have no idea what they do..and I cannot stress this enough-backup your flash0 folders before making any changes...BTW, the file you are referring to is the recovery.prx located in the KD folder-delete that, and your f**k'd...

No I know what Flash0 and all that other stuff is. You musta misunderstood the question. I asked "if you ALTER the flash there might be a semi-brick, but if it WRITES to the flash there might be a full brick" BEcause I heard the custom themes can brick your PSP but on here I hear that everybody semi bricks it. So im asking how are they getting a semi instead of a full.

What usually semi-bricks the psp is the topmenu_plugin.rco that is not compatible with your firmware-this is the file that runs your icons in the psp menu...A full brick comes from a firmware that is not completely written to flash..For example: if you were to be updating your firmware, or while downgrading-your battery happens to fall out and cuts power to the PSP...instant brick-
You cannot totally brick your psp by altering files for themes and such...Unless you were to delete the recovery.prx file located in the KD folder in flash0...That is whats needed to run the recovery mode..delete that and and you will have a full brick as well...
Hope this clarifies things for you...

thats right-which is why its important to keep a copy of your stock flash files on your computer-so if something goes wrong, then you can just replace the files in the resource folder

Altering and writing are the exact same thing, it's simply what the program is actually doing to your flash (like writing firmware, or just changing a theme).
@ Crazykid3:
The flash memory is just like any other hard disk which has no moving parts (eg: a USB pen drive) it's independant from ram and everything else, though the "OS" is what it holds.
That is why Sony don't let you just access it whenever you want. But basically the flash in the psp is just like the memory in any "flash based" mp3 players (any which don't have a HDD) or the main memory in a phone.
PSP, all the way from 1.00 to 5.50 GEN D2 - DS Lite w/ M3DS Real (M3 Sakura v1.34)
PS3 3.01 - iPod Touch 2G 16GB Jailbroken - Xbox 360 60GB - PC, Q6600, 3GB DDR2, GTX260 (216) 896MB
