So i ive been running xp on my comp for some time now and it worked fine, but whenever i drag and drop the mouse on the desktop (to make the selector square thing) the square dosent go away. Its not a huge problem, i was just wondering if there was a way to get it to go away.

when your on the desktop, click anywhere on the desktop and hit "F5" . it should refresh the screen and clear any left over lines.

I don't think you can do that, though I'm not fully sure.

There's obviously some sort of issue tho if that's all that's happening it's a relativley a minor annoyance, how to fix i spose is start with the basics do a registry clean then boot into safe mode & defrag, actually did you install any particular software then it started happening, try deleting the proggy & see what happens
good luck

EDIT: & what gozilla said make sure the hdd is'nt too full

there is a good chance more ram might help. however personally, i'd try and borrow some ram and test the theory before i spent any cash on a fix that might not work.

p.s 512MB or RAM is more than enough ram to run WinXp comfortably.

not bad at all.
512MB is enough for XP,
but 1GB+ and XP really starts to fly.

RAM has nothing to do with your problems. It is either video or software based. I would ditch your 30 gig drives and pick up a 80Gb drive. And do a full reinstall of Windows.
