Hi I'm new to dvd burning and I was wondering what programs do you guys recommend? From what I've read in the guides and faqs there's a lot of programs to choose from... Rather than try every single one and get a lot of junk on my computer I thought I might ask instead. I mainly want a program that is simple to use, but still has a some features. I can always go to a more complicated program later. Also I want to stay away from trial software, although I'm open to purchasing software if there are any good ones that would do the whole process for me. I already have Nero 7. Sorry in advance if this is already a thread somewhere. Thanks for any advice.
Also I was wondering how common is it for a DVD to be larger than 4.7 gigs.

You're right...there are numerous programs out there to do the job. Some of my favs are:
(1) DVD Shrink 3.2 You can find it in the download section of the website.
FFsp42, thanks for the like to that website, it was really helpful. In particular I liked the one about RipIt4Me. Do you think that this program is good? From what I can tell it uses the same programs as you listed, but automatically opens them sequentially. I'm a little worried about installing it because I haven't heard much about it on forums, so I'm wondering if there's something wrong with it, like it has spyware or buggy code. Although this might be because it's made for inexperienced people... Thanks for the help.

RI4M is an excellent program and, this time last year, was one of the most popular among users. Unfortunately, "Big Brother" got to it and shut it down, at least killed the updates. The program still works and is still available, if you know where to look. As long as the program continues to work on newer encryptions, which last time I checked it did, it is definitely a program well worth having. Just keep in mind, that at any time a new encryption comes along that RI4M cannot handle, that will be it. No updates.
