Ok to update system software with flashed drive?

Ok I just successfully flashed my hitachi ver 59dj drive. To play dirt it needs an update to run it, and to get on xbox live I need to update. All in all is it ok to do these updates with a flashed drive?

In fact I think we would be fooling our selves if we have a community this large, and did not realize that there are some enemies present.
