I can save the movie to my computer but when i tried burning it, with nero in the first 10% it stops and says failed to read data. and with imgburn the same thing happens around 10%I get an error saying cannot continue cycle redundancy check. Can someone please help, because normally the crc's only come up when trying to rip the movie not burn it.

300 was pretty easy for most people, very light copy protection. With 2 burner apps acting it, it appears you somehow got a poor transcode. Try decrypting with DVDFab HD Decrypter or RipIt4Me, DVDIdle.com and Softpedia.com respectively. Then open the ripped files in Shrink and transcode again.

Crap media will give you crap results.....Since you are in the burn mode, it's telling you it doesn't like your media.

Where's the insanity? I believe I was the first to suggest redoing the transcode using a different process. As for the media in use, that's one I normally suggest using. I've done spindles of backups without a coaster with Sony +R. It's manufactured by Taiyo Yuden when it has the Made in Japan on the label. It's manufactured by Sony if Made in Taiwan. I've used both with equal success. Many of the forum members recommend both makes of the Sony +R. Check with DocTy if you doubt my word. I'm not saying he didn't get a bad batch, but if other backups have been working successfully, I doubt media being the issue. Note the if. It's cheaper to retry the transcode than to buy a spindle of media.
edit:
If the problems occur again after retrying the transcode, then I'd start suspecting the target media or source, maybe even the software setup. Depending on the DVD and software in use, copy problems can slip through and show up in the burning sequence.

try running the ripped folder thru FIXvts or VObblanker before using shrink...that should help with the shrink problem.
or maybe the dvd you are copying has something wrong with?
try playing the ripped folder to see if everything plays right.
also try ripping it with dvdFab HD

RI4M uses FixVTS and it's incorporated in the last version. I just processed my new copy of 300 and it ran through RI4M and Shrink without a hitch. There's nothing outstanding about the copy protection on 300. In fact it's so light that RI4M says the user can jump to Shrink. I still use the 1-click to do the entire rip and process through DVD Decrypter and incorporated FixVTS (I use the 1.7.1.0 version).
If the software is being used properly, I think it's time to run a read scan on the source DVD to see if there are any errors.
edit:
Glad you agree with me on the ripper software I suggested earlier.

pacman,
obviously if he gets that error in shrink then he didn't run fixVts and how do you know what version he is using?

I just noticed that. Bowler and I both suggested software in addition to Shrink. DVD Decrypter is part of the RI4M pack which I suggested using. Appears you didn't follow that suggestion or the use of DVDFab HD Decrypter. I prefer the RI4M in 1-Click mode (rip instead of jumping to Shrink). Use one or the other and give it another try. If it doesn't work after ripping properly, then do a read scan to check the source.
I opened 300 in DVD Shrink without the use of other software. It doesn't look like there's any flaws or protection to prevent the backup. I'm starting to think you may have a faulty press. Do the read scan and let us know what you have. Use the Scandisc selection in Nero CD-DVD Speed utility (in Tools) or the similar utility in DVDInfoPro (free). You're looking for bad sectors. Let us know how that turns out. First make sure there are no bad scratches, fingerprints or smudges on the surface of your DVD.

Most of what I've said was intended for the benefit of the helpee. I'm sure you know all about the software.
Doesn't matter which version he uses, all versions of RI4M used FixVTS. 1.7.1.0 went ahead and incorporated the program instead of linking to it. This DVD doesn't need FixVTS or anything other than Shrink to decrypt and transcode. Copy protection is almost nonexistent on this DVD. It's more than likely a bad press. If the physical condition is okay, I'd suggest returning the DVD and trying another copy. If the read scan isn't too high on the learning curve, I'd suggest doing that first.

As per my signature, I ripped and burned this without any hiccups.
On another note, if you follow the advice given by either Pacman or 300, you'll be fine.
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

Sony +Rs 8X if MIJ are some of the best TYs ever made. Have not used the Sony MIJ 16X +Rs but they are not TYs but not bad media.
@Bilbo
If you look at the Shrink message: Invalid data file VTS_01_7VOB He doesn't have a good file as pacMan says. He needs to re rip the file and if he uses Shrink to do that he'll be ok. This doesn't seem to have anything to do with quality of media. The file is simply corrupted. JM2C

Good point on the file.
When did they change from TY on the MIJ Sony 16X +R(s) and whose making them? My last couple of spindles were from Wally's and were the Sony manufactured items (MIT).

jamesrock- I have'nt gotten 300 yet but plan on doing so . So you post caught my attention ! If you do not mind could I offer some unsolicited advice ? The Old Stand-Bye Freeware Programs DVD Shrink,DVD Decrypter,DvdFab Decrypter, Ripi4me ect... are Great and often work like a charm with many Movies ! Even some of the Newer releases ! However , You will reach a point that those same freeware Programs will have problems or simply not be able to handle the Protections on more and more Movie releases ( Sony's In particular ) But other Studios / Movie companies as well ) The best solution I have found is ANYDVD & CLONEDVD2 -From Slysoft.com ! Yes you do have to pay for them But they do work and work well ! THey also let you try them for 21days prior to buying the programs to see if they work to your expectations? for free and this is the full functional version not some cheeky stripped down trial version with all the good features disabled ! PLus both programs are updated regularly so they keep up with the newer protection stratagies! Also if you do decide to either Try or Buy CLONE & ANYDVD I would suggest that you Get both as they work best Together !!! Also Slysoft is always running some sort of Promotion /sale so you can save money too! & NO I don't work for them !! I'm Just a Satisfied customer Trying to pass along what I've learned from The Great afterdawn.com Community & from experience as well! Hope all your BUrns are successFull and you have fun with your hobby !!!!!!!!Good luck & Happy Burning !!!

AnyDVD is a good driver decrypter, but the job can be done with the ripper types like the free DVDFab HD Decrypter from DVDIdle and RI4M. To date I've not heard of a DVD that RI4M won't bypass the copy protection on, even though it has lost support. The DVDFab is the decryption program from DVDIdle's retail programs. As long as they give it away we're okay. It remains supported and up to date. So at this time and into the near future AnyDVD remains a luxury item. I've got it and like the program, but it's not a necessity yet. As for CloneDVD, it's one of my least used programs. DVDIdle has a program named Region Free that's a driver type decryption program, similar to AnyDVD, and with the Platinum, they have a combination program that is something of a one click deal that does the entire backup job.

@pacman
That may be true but AnyDVD with any of the below is a one or two clicks from start to finish. One click after opening DVD.
Nero Recode, DVD Shrink, or CloneDVD and I probably missed some too.
I have not heard of DVDIdle's program. I've used DVDFabHD(free) before but not lately; I keep it updated and ready to go. I use it if AnyDVD fails, which it hasn't, in many months. Glad to here RipIt4me is still doing it's work. Got it also.

DVDFab Platinum is pretty much one click. It decrypts, transcodes, and burns. It has the same decryption software as the DVDFab HD Decrypter. If I liked transcoders, I'd probably use it more. RipIt4M, though made up of different programs, is pretty much one click. RI4M does the decryption using DVD Decrypter and FixVTS, opens the files in DVD Shrink for transcoding, and a selected burner can seamlessly do the burn. Of course RI4M has lost support, but is still not obsolete. As I mentioned, DVDIdle has DVD Region + CSS Free and it works with transcoders just as well as AnyDVD. On occasion it's taken a few more days to get updated when the studios pull a surprise, but DVDIdle has always gotten the job done. Recode, DVDCopy5, DVD2One... most of the major transcoders work with Region Free as well as AnyDVD with CloneDVD 2, at least in my experience. Like I said before, I'm not putting down Slysoft, I have the software. I don't see it as being indispensable though. All the software I've mentioned are only a couple clicks or so to get the job done, no more difficult than using the Slysoft software. To each his own, there's a lot of good software out there. Seems the shortage is in good decryption software.
