I am v. new to this subject as i haven't used my psp in a while as my umd's aren't playing properly and came across this "homebrewing". i have two psp's handy. one mine and one my nephews. as luck would have it the first thing i did when i switched the first one on was to go to the psp website and update my firmware to the latest (from 2.0 to 3.52). no sooner had i done this than i read that this means i can no longer get and use bootleg movies and games on this system. ( ouch) am i correct in that at least guys? :( my other psp has 2.01 so i am going to leave it alone till i can get a bit of help on this subject. Can anyone help me here please? Thanx in advance people.

Download the 2.00/1 downgrader from here
Follow all the readme's correctly and don't be an idiot.
For your 3.52, sell it/give it away/exchange it because you won't be able to get homebrew on that one. But if the 3.52 is yours, switch it with your nephew's and dont tell him.. He won't ever know!

Haha, I like that plan
After downgrading you should install a CFW (Custom Firmware)
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/498533
I would go with 3.40OEA, also, you should be able to find a guide to upgrade to the CFW laying around the forums.

Sorry for needing my hand held here but the link for the downgrader isn't leading me anywhere. I see its trying to take me to quickjump so should i just go there and look for the :
(2.0-2.01-Easy-Downgrader-PSP/pg/12/fid/9928/catid/114), myself?

I posted my original post twice by mistake and got a couple of methods on how to go forward in my adventure in tryin to enable my PSP v.2.01 to play games and movies that i've downloaded from the internet. The first was to downgrade, from glenguag, and it involved downloading fanjitas 2.0/2.01 Easy Downloader ( 2.01DG.zip ) from ( http://dl.qj.net/2.0-2.01-Easy-Downgrade.../9928/catid/114 ). I see i need somethin called eLoader v0.9.8, but i'm sure i'll find it about here. then armorthis told me after i had downgraded with this i should install CFW 3.40 OE-A ( whats the diff. from 3.40 OE-A' ? ) from ( http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/542890 ) and i'd find a guide to this around the forum. I'm sure i will but another method i was told of was to upgrade to the Sony Firmware 2.71 from ( http://dl.qj.net/Firmware-2.71-PSP/pg/12/fid/8046/catid/163 ). Then downgrade using Bug Fix for 2.71 Downdater by Dark_Alex from ( http://dl.qj.net/Bug-Fix-for-2.71-Downda.../9759/catid/114 ). Bearing in mind i am a pure noob that is running version 2.01 (official i think) and i only want to play games and movies i download from the internet on my psp. i am hoping to go wireless with it using my wireless router but i think i may need to change it to be used as an access point only for my PSP to connect as i cant get it to go online just now. but thats a diff. store altogether and can wait till another time. any help will be greatly received good people.

so i should go with your method then glenguag?
its just i was going to go the upgrade route the other day but underneath a download link for the 2.71 upgrade it told me i would be "sayin bye bye to homebrew on the psp", so i didn't go head with it.
i realise it might have been an old comment from before u guyz got the newest shit cracked but i dont want to take the chance and ruin this one too.

can anyone show me where to get the eLoader 0.98 ?
It's okay i found it. it's called eLoader v0.98 (the "Porter" release), is this the correct one as once i installed it on my mem. stick the readme says "IT CANNOT LOAD EBOOT.PBPs THAT CONTAIN FIRMWARE UPDATES"
I think i might have downloaded the wrong one. i think it should have been [eLoader 0.9.8] from : http://dl.qj.net/eLoader-0.9.8-Windows-I.../9819/catid/114
Instejad of [eLoader 0.98 "Porter"] from : http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/news/eloader-0.98-porter.html
Also, i know i'm asking a few questions at once here, but i really am a bit stuck on how 2 go on, in the readme for the 2.01 downgrader it says i should "copy the v1.5 Update EBOOT to /psp/game/update/EBOOT.PBP." But where do i get the v1.5 Update ?

I'm workin in circles here a bit i think. i'll explain what i've done and what i'm planning to do again. sorry bout the mix up mate.
First i got the 2.01 downgrader and in the readme it said i'd need eloader 0.98 . I downloaded the eloader i mentioned above (Porter), installed it on my mem. stick, then read the readme and a few of the specs mentioned didn't look right so i went and got fanjitas 0.98 one from quickjump and that looks a bit better.
So now i have eloader 0.98, 2.01 downgrader, and the 3.40 OEA CFW. I think this is all thats needed so far, except the readme with the downgrader says i need the v1.5 Update EBOOT, but maybe its in the folder i'll extract ? So i'm just psyching myself up for the next step and actually moving some of it onto the PSP ! Also i'm using my laptops card reader to put the stuff on the mem. stick, will that make a difference ?
This is turning into a bit of a novel. Ha Ha

It shouldnt make a difference if you use a card reader, as long as the files get onto the memory stick and in the correct locations...But I would start fresh using the downgrader I linked in my last post...It has a link to the 1.5 update eboot that you need as well..

Thanks nutz, i wasn't using that guide but its explaining it in nice simple terms so i'm gonny go with that. one other thing (two maybe hehe) , the 1.5 update download page linked from the guide says its for north america and i'm in Scotland so should i use that one or do i need a diff. one ? and the eloader is v. 0.99 whereas i was told earlier i'd need 0.98.

The north america one is fine...usually when you get the firmware updates-its either US or Japan...
The eloader version 0.99 is the most recent-you should use that one...You can use the link that rsrepp posted as well-it makes no difference...The link for the eloader on the downgrade guide is the same...

Which one did you use? 0.98 or 0.99? And what step are you on from that guide I pointed you to? Have you copied over the downgrader files, and already renamed your 1.50 update eboot (ex:"eboot.pbp to "update.pbp"?) You need to do all of that for it to work...Also if you dont have an "update" folder, you will need to create one inside the "game" folder- (ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE), and you put your renamed 1.50 eboot inside the update folder...
