Compressing a very large (11.5gb) video

I was wondering if anyone knew of good ways to compress a very large video file, about 11gb in size, while retaining sound and video quality? I tried putting it into Windows Movie Maker to convert it to WMV, which usually does the compression trick, but it seems that WMM can't handle the size. I have it in a DivX converter now and it'a almost done, but I'm not sure what the estimated file size is going to be. Please get back to me!
