My friend brought me over his wii today and i took a look at it. I am pretty sure it can be fixed. What had happened was he tried using that god awful "cold heat" solderingiron and it ended up breaking (the iron). Well tomorrow I am going to stop at the hardware store and get a thinner tip and a new iron, as well as some smaller solder.
here is a picture of the terminal that had come off. Can this be fixed with just placing more solder on it?
When I stop there tomorrow, what size tip and guage solder do you reccommend? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the quick reply!. So basically solder to the nearest part where I see the gold IC leg. I will try that this afternoon and let you know how it works out.
The only thing I have never used before is the flux. basically put it on both terminals ends and it helps the wire stick better I'm asuming?
You just apply A LITTLE BIT of soldering flux on each point that you are going to solder. This allows for the solder to mold easily into the point and also cleans the area. So yeah-
1. Using a toothpick, dip some flux on the tip.
2. Apply a point with flux.
3. Heat the point with the soldering iron until the flux melts.
4. Repeat with the rest of the points.
Make sure not to leave the iron on there too long, or else you'll burn off the point.
And for the alternate point, make sure to use A LITTLE BIT of solder on the wire (tinning) when you solder on the wire to the IC leg. If you splash some solder on any of the nearby legs then you'll need to use the desoldering braid to get it all out. This is definitely not for those new to soldering.
And make sure to sharpen the tip of your soldering iron with a nail filer or something similar to really give it a nice sharp point.
So i tried connectingthat point that came off to the IC leg.
It is extrememly hard to get the solder to stick to the board. is there any material useful in making another connection point, or what is the best way to get solder to stick to the board.
Also I got the other points but wow is it hard with the solder iron mentioned above. The solder doesnt stick to the "tip" or the iron, rather just to the sides. This makes it extremely hard to not melt the other connection points.
If i can not make another connection point, what are my options? Should i just get another modchip that doesnt use that point?
