It is very frustring to have to eject disc hoping the game will start up again after a DRE. I have spent hours trying to glean all the info I could about Wii DRE
I have learned:

- use good media verbatim, or t. yuden
- use -r
- burn slow

However, there are other possible complications that may or may not contribute to drive read errors:

1)Does it matter if the wii is updated?
2) Many state that the dvd writer is unimportant. Is this true? What writer is the best and or cheapest?(very interested in this one, this is probably my problem, my writer is ancient- I have the most current update for it
Would like to start a list of dvd writers that have NEVER given a wii DRE
3) What about the wii drive not being put back together properly after modding. How tight should the 4 mounting screws be. I think the shock absorbption facter would be lessened if they are tightened too much. Does it matter? Would the balance be affected if they are not tightened evenly- like lugnuts on a tire?
4) Which wiikey config is best? 6X or 3X

If I have overlooked any other complications or possible solutions in previous threads, I apologize in advance. Any and all help would be great.

1. Updates have had no effect on my Wii in regards to DRE.

2. I disagree that the burner is unimportant, burn quality can range greatly from burner to burner. I currently use a Liteon 20A1P & Sony DVD+R and I have never had a DRE.

3. I doubt this is the cause. The drive is basically self contained. As long as its mounting screws are snug and you arent kicking the thing around it should be fine.

4. I've only used 6X and as before I've never had a DRE.

Its IDE/ATA, there is also a SATA version but I've never really checked to see how the burned on that one looked.

I haven't really used many burners, but in the dvdrw world, only nec's. All my wii games were burned using a nec 3500. I used a variety of media (mostly 3rd class) and various burn speeds and haven't seen one dre yet. Most of the discs are cmc, some 3rd class, some 4th. Got a few early mitsus in there as well. So maybe burner is important?

Ok here is some more info. I have successfully burned 2 games resident evil and warioware:smooth moves both notorious for DRE. I have not had a single DRE yet after a few hours playing each! I did not change my burner an old IDE 1008. I have tried
:
failure=office depot 16x R+ burned at 1x imgburn=RE4 loads but hangs after splash
verbatim 16x R- burned at 1x,2x imagburn and nero 7=plays but many DRE 1 every 5 min

success = verbatim 16x R- at 4x imgburn no dre
I never have a prob with GC games or wiikey config
Also, wii doesn't play anything when vertical only horizontal go figure.

Interesting. I'll hopefully be assembling my wii back together tonight. So far, I've been just laying the wii horizontal since it's not in the housing. Hopefully things will still be ok

I always tough that DVD+R changing booktype to DVD-ROM would be the best way.

I'm using Pioneer DVL111R (was a DVR110, update firmware to new version)
ImgBurn at max speed
Multilaser DVD+R never had a problem (had with the chip, had to change it... :( )

I think ever since my brother updated the WiiKey firmware, I've been getting some weird DREs. I always get a DRE in the same place and level on Call of Duty 3 and last night when I tried The BIGS (this game is fine, I've beaten the game before), it gave me a DRE at the Wii menu. I should probably reburn CoD3 but I already deleted the .iso thinking it's fine lol.
