Noob help firmware upgrade PLZZZ HELP!

ok i was looking at moding my 360 and i was reading the tutorial that is stickied for modding a Hitachi Drive i think i have one. Anyways, I was wondering since that post is like a year old what is the best firmware to update to so it will have the least of problems? How big of a chance is there of bricking or getting the three red light error? One more question can you just be playing a "game backup" and you go away or a while and in the meantime you shut off your 360 you comeback you turn it on and your 360 is bricked or has the three red light error? If that is the case I might not do it if it can just screw up anytime at random. 1 more, is there a good site to check the latest firmware updates and Download them? I already checked dl.qj.net and nothing sorry if it is not allowed to be posted i'll understand. PLZZZ reply i am a noob and i need ALOT of help!

1.xbins has the newest firmware for an hitachi(iXtreme Rev2)
2.kind of hard to brick hitachi's since you flash while in windows
3.depends the RRoD(red rings) is different with every xbox unless you have a newer xbox with the updated heatsinks and better hardware then you can get the red rings if your xbox is modded or not usually(98%) of the time the firmware hack has nothing to do with the RRoD...
4.Xbins has all the firmware.
