i have a lattitude dell laptop but when i boot it up before it even loads xp it loads a white screen saying this "This computer is protected by a password authentication system you cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password. please type in the primary administrator password and press enter". Is this the same password as the windows xp password or a system password? can i retrieve the password? i've looked around with no luck but as far as i can tell it is the "bios administrator password" its a d600 #dsx5v51-595b service

Have you tried to boot into the BIOS and reset the password?
