Forgive me; I am a newbie with this stuff. I am looking for a way to edit DVD movies, like take out a bad word on my kids' movie, or delete a small scene I don't want them seeing. Is this possible, and what software will I need to do this?

I think 'VideoRedo' can do this.I prefer freeware.

Rip the DVD with DVDFab HD Decrypter.

Load the folder into DVD Shrink.
Click 'Reauthor' and drag 'Title 1' from right to left.
Click on the 'Start/End Frames' logo and move the 'end frame' slider to where the bad scene begins and click 'ok'.

Drag 'Title 1' from right to left again and make the start frame just beyond the end of the bad scene and 'ok'

When you click 'Backup!', you have a movie missing a bad scene.

You have the option of doing the same with the naughty words or you can take the censored movie and further modify the audio stream, but it becomes more involved with audio.

DVDFab HD Decrypter
Insert disk, run program, select 'Main Movie' or 'Full Disk'

DVD Shrink:

Download, install and run.
'Open Files' choose the folder with the DVD files.
Backup and either burn with Nero or save to a folder and burn with ImgBurn.

http://www.imgburn.com/

Run ImgBurn
Click 'Mode' > 'Build'
Click 'Output' > 'Device'
Click 'File' > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK'
Set burning speed to 4x and click the green write button.

My favourite video editor - VideoCharge - can do that without fail. It's not free, and probably there is a lot of other editors that also can do that, but you can give it a try:)
