New guy here - I use Any DVD and CloneDVD for my backups. I recently purchased an Audiovox dual screen DVD player for our car/kids. It has a difficult time playing any backups I have. Sometimes I can stop it, open and start playing over and it will be fine, others not at all. I use Verbatim 16x +R discs from Sam's Club, burner is Sony dru-820a, updated firmware several weeks back and I burn at 8x. The discs play fine on home and computer players. Do I need to start booktyping my discs? If so can this be done with AnyDVD and Clone DVD and if so how? I went here http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php (found in search) but it did not address Any/CloneDVD. Thanks, Nelson

Hi drnls
CloneDVD doesn't booktype and I'm not sure if your drive supports this option or not - listed as an oem BenQ but I couldn't find which model BenQ.
Try taking the burn speed down a notch to see if this helps play in that one player.
If that doesn't do it - try Verbatim -R discs.

Thanks, I looked at the player but could not find manufacturer. Manufacturer ID: T is all there was. I'll try burning at slower speed and try different programs. Nelson

yeah try burning at 4x and see if that helps . clonedvd 2 + anydvd is all you need its not the program.
you can booktype with dvd decrypter if your drive supports it so you can try that.
open dvd decrypter
click tools
go to drive
click "change booktype"
booktype it to DVD-ROM
close out dvd decrypter
open clonedvd 2 transcode and burn and when your finished your disc should read as DVD-ROM
remember to do this with the blank DVD in the drive before you start this process

So do I keep AnyDvd running in the background if I do the above procedure? Nelson

Okay - Do I have to change to booktype each time or just set it once and con't burning with Clone DVD2? Is there a program that verifies the disc is now DVD-ROM? I have DVD identifier. Thanks for your guidance, Nelson

I think you'll need to do this with decrypter everytime you go to booktype. (aabbccdd can confirm or deny :) ). I have LiteOn's so I have to use the LiteOn booktyping utility everytime I put in a new disc.
DVD Identifier or decrypter can id the disc after it's burned to make sure it was booktyped.

Well I backed up two more movies, booktyped to DVD ROM (verified with DVD Identifier) and used 4x burn speed. Tested one in the car and it just paused/stopped like before. Tested it on home player with no problems. Any other ideas? look for another car player. The car player has no problems with originals. Thanks, Nelson

Nelson use the DVD dash R format instead of the DVD plus R format and it should work good brands are Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and burning at 4x for the car player should be fine

I mostly use Nero to burn and to booktype to DVD-ROM, once booktype is set it remains that way.

Should have clarified - I have to use the utility to booktype when using CloneDVD.
Nero will automatically booktype the +R for me on the newer LiteOn's but not the older one (sohw-832) for that I have have to set it in cd-dvd speed - the only place it will let me set it.
@drnls
Unfortunately some DVD players can be pickier on the media they like than others. Give Taiyo Yuden a try. Just my experience but these have had the best compatibility on the different players. If you're in the US check out super media store.

Thanks for the link. Just ran to Sam's and picked up 100 Verbatim DVD-R's for $30. I'll buy some of the 50 packs from Best Buy next week. Well I'm off to try the -R's. Nelson

They have already covered this, but the DVD player in my wife's minivan only plays DVD-R disks, doesn't like the +r no matter what speed they are, (4X, 8X or 16X) you should have no problem now with the -R disks.
By the way, I do all the backups for the minivan with CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD and have no problems. I usually burn at 12X and see no quality issues with Sony, Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim disks. None of my burners will burn the 16X stuff below 6X by the way.

I finally got to back up one video Sunday - took twice as long as usual. Have not checked it in the mobile video system yet, looked good on home DVD player. Nelson
