what kind of movies are you trying to burn(i.e. what format are they?) You have to change the format if they are AVI, xvid, etc. You don't have to change the format if they are backups of dvd's.

software requirements are going to depend upon what your goals are.

If you want to back up dvds, I would recommend DVD Shrink and either recordnow or Nero. Check out oriphus' guides:

If you have Movies on your Hard drive that you say downloaded off the net then you will need a Mpeg encoder like "Tmpgenc" to encode them to DVD Compliant Mpeg2 Files, and you will need a DVD authoring Program to add menu"s and chapters to your Movies and author them to DVD-R.....there are many guides on the net like at www.dvdrhelp.com

Well they are divix and AVI, no back up dvds, just things that i got off imesh. What do you mean by authoring software, just give me an idea of some of them that you would use. All I want to do is pull the ones off my drive and build a collection for myself, I thank you guys for your guidence on this matter, anymore pointers you can give is welcomed....

An authoring Program is a Program that will takes the DVD Compliant Mpeg files and adds the Menu"s and Chapters and any other features you want in your DVD and then it formats it all into a Video_TS Folder then it Burns the Folder to DVD or you can use somehting else to burn the Video_TS folder to DVD-R...some DVD authoring Program are say "Tmpgenc DVD Author or DVD-Lab or Sonic DVDit and there are Many more some Total Crap Like Nero Vision express and NeoDVD and some Much better like DVD-Lab and Sonic DVD producer and some are cheap Like $79 for DVD-Lab and some are More expensive like Sonic Scenerist which is between $15,000 and $35,000 or "Sonic DVD producer" which runs about $4500....Cheers
