I don't think that we should take the chance to update. I know that somethings work but...
If the setup disk didn't work- something has changed. It doesn't sit to well with me.
What do you guys think?

yeah, it's pretty understandable that you would be wary of updating. i updated a few hours ago, and everything works perfectly fine, but i can't help but feel a *little* worried...

Same here. Wiikey NTSC Wii.
Don't update is my advice. There is no point to do it of now. Wait to see if anyone gets messed up using online or whatever.

I agree. I wont update just yet. I am very tempted to but it is better to wait until we find out what exactly this update is doing to the modchips.

Well I updated and I'm staying, Some of you guys are a little too paranoid...

I havent updated yet either but according to wiikey its safe and they are working on releasing a config disc that boots, heres the link http://www.wiikey.cn/news.html

i updated to 3.0, theres no problems but everything looks sexier O: woo nintendo. but yea, if you have a wiikey then it won't read your setup disk or something, but it will still read backups and everything else, they are putting out one thats cpmpatible with 3.0

ha ha! I remember similar statements in the xbox360 forums. Just a few days later those same people were crying that their systems didn't work anymore. Same thing happened with updates from sony on the psp scene. If it aint broke, don't fix it. Why would you update not knowing yet if it's 100% safe?
It's just smart logic to wait until we know everything there is to know about this update first. If all your games play fine under an older firmware, then why would you risk it to update? That makes no sense. I never update software on any of my consoles until I have some game that I want to play that wont run on older software. And even then, I don't update until I can confirm that it won't brick my console.
But hey buddy, go jump the gun if it makes you feel better. I'll wait until I know I'm in the clear.

guess you and everyone else will have to use the update blocker on every different region game u try before putting it in your wii

I posted previously saying that I wasn't going to update yet, but after Wiikey confirms that it doesn't affect your wiikey modchip, I am now going to update and join 3.0U!!!

Thank you to those that keep us posted. I can't access to the News Channel & Shopping Channel anymore but that's ok because the Internet Channel's still working and my emulator disc's still working, so I don't need that Shopping Channel ;) and I'm still able to play Mario Strikers (original disc) online. So "if nothing's broken, why fix it" right? :) Not that I care, but the Weather Forecast & Everybody Votes channels still working, so I'm content with what I have.

i can access the news channel and the shopping channel O_o....there appears to be no side effects of getting the update except the wiikey boot disc

To fix the news channel you have to agree to the new TOSs under internet in the Wii options.

TOS= TErms of service. Same thing really.
Anyway, you could also try bumping your clock forward a minute in the calendar options. I had to do both to get the news to work.

I updated my Wii to 3.0 and I didn't receive any warning message. Everything seems to be working fine, and I have not tested the Wiikey setup disc, but I have no further use for it so it doesn't matter.

Anyone tested gamecube games after a 3.0 update ? I read on another forum that it wouldn't load backup gamecube games anymore after the update....you had to use GCOC or whatever it's called to load gamecube games.

I thought this too but as soon as i saw this message i got luigis mansion and burned to a taiyo yuden disk @ 3x with imgburn , it works so i guess it dosent disable the backup gamecube games as if this was the case it would probobly have to disable regular legit real games also ( i think) .
so yeh still works with backup gc games after update to 3.0 for me
