Ritek seem to have a pretty good name and apparently produce discs for many of the big companies. However when buying cake box spindles, how can you tell if they are genuine Ritek? My last purchase was for 50 printable ones which were completely white on the one side and a deep purple on the burn side. Absolutely no way of telling the manufacturer, but they were purchased from a very reputable on-line company. With so many fake discs in the marketplace though, it still leaves you wondering.

Riteks are a very distinctive colour of purple which no other manufacturer seems to use in my experience.
check the ADIP with DVD identifier:

http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

The colour of the dye & a Ritek ADIP should verify it's Ritek as i personally haven't read any stories of fake Riteks yet

ADIP is the official name for what some people call media code/Lead-in.
It tells you which manufacturer made the DVD & what particular dye type it is

eg) Ritek G04, MCC or PRINCO are 3 ADIP codes.

Nero Vision Express tell you the manufacturer of the DVD media, I think Nero 6 does as well?

You need an identifer app. Verbatims can be Ritek, CMC and Taiyo Yuden. So when people say they have success with Verbatims, that is basically useless info by itself.

Hey koola,

Was just pressing the point home for others. I would also add that for folks with Nero's CD/DVD Speed they can pop in a burned DVD and do a tranfer rate test to check for any drops/read errors (Princo's always show problems for me at the very end, Ritek G03's do not). Then you can use a brand that works right with your specific burner.
